I agree. I think we care WAY too much about celebrities and their issues these days. Among other things, it's contributing to the downfall of this country. Ben Carson speaks very eloquently about this problem in his most recent book, One Nation.

I don't know why, but the tears flowed really freely all night and I got vary little sleep. I've always liked Joan and, in recent years, watched her reality show with Melissa and some of her appearances on QVC. It just always seemed like she'd be here for many more years. It just really struck me hard. I don't know why, but some things hit you harder than others. She was like this force of nature and I admired her work ethic and endless energy.

and that, is exactly what I felt when Karen Carpenter passed.

I agree with you 100% in fact when I watched Beyonce being interviewed by Oprah she gushed about child birth. She went on and on about the special bond she had in that moment blah blah blah. It makes the average woman wonder if she is a terrible person for remembering it was painful. My point we all have a connection to our children but childbirth is not all sunshine and roses like Beyonce claimed to have. I also had a parent on life support and it is one of the most difficult moments you will ever experience. I feel for Melissa because I do know the feeling. Grief is universal so can all identify with the pain and unspeakable sadness.

My condolences to anyone else who lost someone important to them and/or went through something painful...whether they're famous or not.

Rest in peace, Joan.

She was someone who seemed as if she would be here forever.

Yes, we expected her to live for many more years, she was so active and healthy.

That was the immense sadness of it all, even though she was 81 it was still so sudden and unexpected. It had nothing to do with the celebrity- many celebrities pass away and I don't feel the same level of grief. I grew up with Joan, she was always a part of my life.

It bothers me much more when entertainers get awards and praise and recognition for doing their job like emmys and Oscars - when people who do much more important jobs - like soldiers and police and fireman doctors and teachers and many others - people who SHOULD be awarded for doing what they do - go unnoticed.

What amazes me was not long ago Joan was being torn to shreds on these boards for something she said..it was a lynch mob scene...people don't get she was a COMEDIAN..funny was funny to her..nobody was sacred.

And I wonder where those posters are lately!

Do I wonder why people aren't much interested in ordinary people? NO. By definition they are "ordinary." Everyone cares about their own friends and family, and people are interested in celebrities because they feel like in some way they know them. People we don't know? By and large their lives aren't of interest to everyone else.

I can think of no reason on earth why anyone would be interested in me. Ordinary? I could be the poster child for it.
