I can honestly say that I’ve never had a package go all over the place geographically with zig-zag shipping.  I just haven’t. The PO has lost a couple of packages in 45 years, but that wasn’t necessarily due to zig-zagging. Other than that, I’ve personally had more package issues with UPS (and them bold-faced lying) than USPS as far as delivery. Not that I love the PO, as I’ve had other issues with them.

@Moonchilde- It does happen.  Last spring, I had some pants that travelled the country before I got them.

I never indicated that I thought it didn’t ever happen, just that it’s never happened to me.

I find that the 2 local post offices near me are terrible.  There seems to be no customer service.  I have had an employee refuse to scan in my QVC return in my presence, and who told me that if I wanted a receipt that I would need to pay $3.00.  This transaction resulted in my return taking about a month to get back to QVC.  It was scanned in about a week after I dropped it off, and then did not leave the PO for another 2 weeks.  Taking this experience into consideration, the next time I had a return, I stood in line to see someone at the counter.  He told me that I didn't need to wait in line and that everything gets scanned in daily. I insisted that he scan it in, and explained my previos experience, while he smirked and acted like I was an idiot.

i know that not all post offices will scan in your returns. i have not been able to figure out why though. the 4 post offices i use regularly all scan my returns.....2 different states even. i dont like just leaving them at the counter or with my mailman.

usps is not well run, not consistent at all in its service, and is getting worse each year. i much prefer dealing with ups and fedex.

@sunshine45

Me too....I prefer UPS over dealing with USPS.....so many issues from misdelivering of mail (I joke I work part-time for the Post Office since I have to spend time delivering mail to my neighbors that was put in my box in error), problems with their Schedule A Pick-up Service-(I had to submit 4 requests before they actually came to pick up a package), no one answers the phone at the local number, and their 800 number is designed for only a few services , if your's isnt one of them your out of luck-pressing 0 for an agent does no good.

At one time we had a terrific mail person, then there seemed to be a decline when tons of complaints and poor service arose......when someone asked her about it she even said "that's because my co-workers are a bunch of IDIOTS, and when I go on Army Reserve duty, the IDIOTS take over.  Sadly she left the Post Office and we are left with THE IDIOTS! Woman Frustrated
