I think it's sad.

Re: This is why you're charged for paper statements...

I wrote out my email address in cursive at my car dealership to put into their database and the employee commented how nice my handwriting was.  I asked him, tongue in cheek, if he could read it!  He could, of course, as he was in his mid 40's.

My son's Father in law went for his Medicare physical. The nurse asked him to draw a clock and put the numbers on it.
She looked at what he drew and told him it was incorrect.  This is what he drew:

Roman numerals I, II III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI , XII  In the correct places on the clock. She didn't know Roman numerals.

Laura14, you should get a raise if teaching how to address an envelope isn't in your job description.

This is more pathetic than funny. If schools don't teach that stuff, then parents should. Those managers parents didn't do a very good job teaching life skills. If the parents didn't know how to address envelopes then it's really a problem.

Tough crowd

My kids don't write checks.  They get their bills emailed to them and they pay them on line.
Quote - "sending a check through the mail is archaic".  I agree.

Many seniors have no idea how to use a cell phone, excel spreadsheet, gps, attach a google doc etc.  My DH helps his in their 70's parents with YouTube TV, Netflix, computer issues regularly.

And when his dad almost gave away the farm to a computer scammer, he cleaned up the mess.

I'd take the Jimmy Kimmel bit with a grain of salt.

Oh I believe it.

How many of them know how to tell time on an analog clock or watch?  Imagine what Roman Numerals would do.

My encounter was someone asking what time it was, the answer was quarter past (whatever) the hour.  They told me they didn't know what that meant.

If they didn't know that imagine asking them to walk counter clockwise.  You would really confuse them.

@Laura14 My 30 year old granddaughter and 18 year old grandson know how to address and send mail, they do it quite often. My son and DIL taught them. Many young people DO how to do this!

Both my daughters in their early 30's know how to address envelopes, I know since they send me cards in the mail.

I think this falls on the parents, I helped my kids from a young age send cards to their relatives for thank you notes and birthday cards.
