Some people are just empty headed regardless of their age.
My grands...ages, 21, 19 and 15 all know how to address and mail envelopes.
I once had a boss who asked me to handle a special account for him with kidd gloves. It was a very exclusive person with a lot of clout.
It took me 15 minutes and I reported back to him. He wanted to know how I handled it so fast.
I told him I made a phone call. His response " You can call people in Canada?"

@RedTop wrote:Oh, I believe it! My husbands niece came to visit recently; early 20's. I have a large clock with hour, minute, and second hands, on the living room wall and she cannot tell time that way, never had a watch; she had to look at her cell phone. She does not know how to write a check. The only phone she knows how to use is a cell phone. Days before she was here was the first time she'd ever seen a mercury thermometer.
It doesn't surprise me. It is funny that some young people don't know how to do these things but yet laugh when some old fogies cannot use a cell phone.

I'm so surprised by this ! I just called my 23 yo grandson and asked him if he knew how to address an envelope and the only thing he was sure of is where the stamp went !! So I gave him detailed information as to how to address an envelope ! I told him of this story and how important it is that he have this information because you never know if this will be something he has to do one day. ![]()

@Goodie2shoes wrote:Oh my goodness !!! Well I've heard everything ! At 73 I didn't know something like that was possible ! I also found out recently that my grandson's school ( he's going into the 3rd grade next school session starting in August) will no longer teach cursive writing ! How are these young people going to sign their name to important documents as they become adults ? Buying a home etc ? Will printing out their name vs writing be exceptable ?
Schools haven't taught cursive writing for ages in some areas.
When I volunteered at a local elementary school, many young teachers never learned cursive. They couldn't read or write in cursive...they were in their mid to late 20's.
Occasionally, they would hand me something written in cursive and asked me to read it for them.
It is acceptable and legal to print your name as your signature.

O-M-G. All 3 of my kids are in their early to mid 30's and I can assure you they all know how to mail a letter. Sounds to me like the parents dropped the ball on this one. WOW!

I believe this 100%. I saw a feature on either Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel where they asked young people to address an envelope and put the stamp on it.
0 of 4 could do it correctly. For some strange reason most of them put the mailing address where we would put the return address. 2 of them put the stamp on the bottom left. It was hilarious and sad at the same time.
It was Kimmel, here are 2 screenshots

That is worse than my asking one of the employees here if he knew how to write a check? We need the part ASAP and the only business who had it was and older Mom & Pop store with cash or check payments only no credit cards. The young man came to pick up one of our company checks to get the part and said he did know how to write the check but would I mind doing it since he knew the exact amount with the tax included.

@I am still oxox wrote:What are they teaching in school, isn't there still a LIFE skills course
The schools should offer a life skills course. I tutored for a few years and there was a student who did not know how to use an index. I told her you don't have to look through the whole book just look at the index at the back of the book and look for the page(s) of the information that you are looking for. She would just give me a blank stare and would continue to look through the whole book.
