Well the way you have talked about these two gentlemen would indicate that you are not very approachable.  Or would talk about them behind their backs.

What two gentleman?  I have no idea what you are talking about.

Oh my goodness !!!   Well I've heard everything !  At 73 I didn't know something like that was possible !  I also found out recently that my grandson's school ( he's going into the 3rd grade next school session starting in August)  will no longer teach cursive writing ! How are these young people going to sign their name to important documents as they become adults ? Buying a home etc ? Will printing out their name vs writing be exceptable ?

@Goodie2shoes this is a big misconception on these boards. Your signature does not have to be in cursive. You can "sign" all of the documents you mentioned in print if that is your signature.

 @DJs mom.  @Goodie2shoes.  It's even legal to sign a document with a "X", if that's  your sign.

@Kachina624 that's how my husbands grandmother would sign things and then someone would write next to it "the mark of MG".

She came here from Gibraltar and never learned to speak, read or write English.

What are they teaching in school, isn't there still a LIFE skills course

Sadly no, my son graduated in 2013 and I remember we taught him how to address and envelope and how to write a check before heading out to college. Plus banking and filling out deposit and withdrawal slips.

He wasn't even taught cursive.

This is what happens when everything is automated.  Schools are not teaching cursive writing anymore.  I doubt most young people could use a landline.  Remember when he had all of our friends phone numbers in our heads.  Progress is ok but old school ways should still be taught.  You hear on the news a lot about personal data being breached yet some people want to put more and more on line.  Even storing passwords on line someplace  I don't get it.  Pen and paper  are still a good thing.  I really hate being forced to do stuff on line.  I do not bank on line at least there is still a choice lol.  I know this sounds old school but it is who I am lol.  I use cash more than my debit card due to skimmers being placed in card machines yikes.  And yes I use a paper calendar lol

Thanks to caller ID prank telephone calls are a thing of the past.  People can no longer call and ask if your refrigerator is running.

Lol now we get scam calls on cell phones

Not just prank calls ... when was the last time you answered and they said, "oh sorry, wrong number"?

I worked with a someone who was 24 and she had no clue how to write a check.  I had to  show her.  I had read that the schools stopped teaching the every day things such as writing checks and how to keep track of your checkbook, telling time.  I get a kick of how people on medicare have to take tests but they don't test the younger generation.

I could be wrong, but I'm betting that the schools think that's what the parents are for.

Perhaps we should look back a generation.  Maybe it's not that the young people are clueless ... it's that their parents really don't know "how to parent" their offspring.
