Re: This is the first I've EVER heard of Bill Cosby being a rapist. Why did it all just come out NOW?

Why do people call it supporting Cosby whenever someone says they never witnessed any inappropriate behavior, that's not the type of many they knew him to be, they haven't seen any proof? Those are just facts that in no way support the man at all. I understand doubt and suspicion but I don't understand how anyone can be positive, beyond a shadow of doubt that every allegation is 100% true. I don't understand that at all. It's bizarre.

I work in the entertainment business, and I've been hearing these kinds of allegations for a long time. Bill Cosby is not a beloved figure behind the scenes, believe me.

We all know that many public figures are not at all the way they present themselves to the public, but I have to say that in real life - out of everyone I have ever known - he is the most unlike his public image. And that is saying quite a lot!

I don't know if every single one of these drugged/rape allegations are true, but I do know that he has a reputation for acting inappropriately with women. At least a few of the women who have come forward are very credible. He's also arrogant, entitled, belittling to women, and strange. For those reasons - and others - I am inclined to believe that many of the allegations are true, if not all.

And I absolutely can say that he is not a very nice man. I've never worked with anyone who had anything positive to say about him as a person.

Thank you, NYC Susan for weighing in on this.

I guess I never really thought about his personal life, and it shocked me when I heard about all this. I only know him as a wholesome dad on TV. I remember him way back when he used to do "Picture Pages" on TV, too. Anyway......

But see, that's what I was talking about in my OP. Not just Bill Cosby, but ANY person. You just don't know how people really are in there personal lives. It can be scary.

Yes. I've posted the same thing many times on these forums. The way someone is on camera and in character is usually completely different than how they are off-camera. And we don't know what goes on behind closed doors in the lives of anyone, famous or not.

Many celebrities I know are not very much like their public images. Some are much quieter, some much nicer, some more arrogant, some less serious. Many comedians are not funny at all in real life, and others joke non-stop. I can think of at least three well-known dramatic actors who rarely crack a smile in interviews, but privately are really, really funny. Some of the people most would suspect have a huge entourage actually have none, and vice versa. And I know more than a few "happily married, family-type" people who are living alternative lifestyles but don't want to lose the support of mainstream America.

Show business (every aspect of it) is all about illusion. I'm not denigrating celebrities at all. Most of them are really good people, talented & interesting to be with, and many are really gracious. But overall what you see - for better or worse - is usually not what you get.

I understand that everyone deserves a fair trial and are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. I think the frustration here is the fact that so many years have gone by that there seems to be no physical evidence. People want justice. It is very difficult to believe him when this many come forward....especially since his mode of operation is very consistent with each "young"woman and is almost a text book example of a secksual predator. The women are very text book also (for women who have gone through this)..... almost without exception. It reads very true to me. If he is not guilty....I would eat my hat on this one.

Innocent until proven guilty is only a legal term for the courtroom, this man, in my mind is and has been a serial predator. I will never ever support any venture of his ever again.

For him....a public assassination of his person may be more punishment than prison would be. One way or another, I hope justice will be served. I feel confident that he is guilty...and I am not one to jump the gun.

I think most of the women have understood from the beginning that the statute of limitations means there can be no justice from the judicial system. The only justice they will ever have is that now people know what kind of a man he is. That has to be enough for them - and those of us who believe them.
