Thinking about names then and now

My young nephew and his wife are expecting their second daughter, naming her Winter.His  first daughter is Autumn.  My classmates were Lindas, Dianes, Cheryls, Debbies.  My mother's friends were Dorothy, Helen, Ann, Marge. When my daughter was born it was Lisa, Kelly, Christina. Lots of Lisas then. I gave her none of those names. It's interesting the way names change.

Concerning the name Linda...that was really big in the 50's. I have run into so many Linda Lou, Linda Sue, Linda Mae, Linda Marie and so many others!.

 Me.....I am a Linda Lou!

There were 123 in my graduating class and at least eight were named Kathy/Cathy.

@MoJoV,

I love the name Winter!

I've not heard that before. I have heard of Autumn which is nice as well.

It is funny how the popularity of names changes over the decades.

I guess there are many reasons for that. Maybe favorite names of celebrities, movie characters, role models, heros real and imagined.

One catches on and it spreads.

Maybe the same for urban dictionary words etc.

My class had lots of Nancy, Linda, Patty, Pam, Donna, Diane, Kathy, Barbara, and Mary. Also some Vicky, Susan, and Becky. Don't see those names very often anymore.

Social Security says only 4-5 people per year are given my name.  It'll never go out of style because it's never been in.

Re: Thinking about names then and now

I've often heard the names Winter and Autumn and think they are pretty. Another I love is Willow.

My maternal grandma had a fit because I wasn't named after her. Her name was Nettie. I'm 75 and my life would have been hell in the 50's and on with that name!
