Yes, printer ink.  I agree with you about that!  It bothers me every time.

Newspapers. The prices have gone up, and the news is minimal.

I totally agree about the price of greeting cards.  I have a large rush of birthdays every fall and was shocked to see the cards were $7.99 - even at Target.  We all decided this year that it was a complete waste of money since cards just get tossed, so we agreed going forward no more cards for special days, just a personal call will mean more.  I stopped sending Christmas cards years ago so that is no longer a factor.  I would imagine a sympathy card would still be in order, but hope I won't need any of those for a long time.

I think a thoughtful note written on a blank notecard would be just fine instead of an actual sympathy card.  For me, it's never been the actual card that matters - It's the personal touch when people add their own thoughts.  I know that when my Dad passed away, I barely noticed who sent actual cards and who sent notes on notecards or stationery.  It was the reaching out that mattered.

Don't forget to add the riduculous postage to the cost of a greeting card.  I think cards will eventually fizzle out and be a quaint custom of the past.

I think postage is cheap for letters anyhow. For the price of a stamp I can put a letter in my box and have it travel anywhere in the country and hand delivered to my recipient.

I agree!  I think postage is a bargain.  I have family and friends all over the country and all over the world, and I think it's great that I can send cards and letters to them for such a low price - and have them delivered in only a few days.

Just about everything is over priced today, it's your choice to part with your money if you want something. I am not the most frugal person, I am fortunate to have a little disposable income so I pretty much treat myself and others on a regular basis and don't care much about the price of things.

@Sooner   I lost one of my precious dogs on Tuesday night.  My remaining dog has an appointment with a cardiac vet coming up.  The initial visit will be $1500.  Then, the dog will be prescribed the same meds as my recently deceased dog used.

I have hundreds of dollars in meds in my dog cabinet.  While waiting for the cardiac vet appointment, I am already starting my dogs on her sister's unused meds.  She is  suffering, and the meds make her more comfortable.

They both have MVD...runs in their breed and most eventually die from this condition.  My remaining dog will be my last pet.

It is way too expensive to provide proper care for sick animals and when they pass, the pain is too severe.  I can't do this again.

@Carmie , I am so sorry.  Those of us who have lost pets understand how very tough it is.  My thoughts are with you.

Good news about postage: the first class rate will not increase for 2020.  It will remain $0.55.

am taking my remaining dog to a new cardiologist soon.  The price for the exam and testing will be $611.   The cardiologist I used for my other dog charged  $1500 for the same thing and required a echocardiogram every six months for $750.

The new cardiologist is supposed to be wonderful.  I hope so.

My sister's cat has some rare condition...and he's on a special prescription food which is expensive...everytime the cat's condition flares up its always $300-$400 per visit....But she loves the guy so she does what she's gotta do, her other 2 last cats also had health issues....Meanwhile the cats I have had over the years live 17 to 22 years and I just feed them regular Purina cat food and just regular checkups, but costs for a basic office visit have gone WAY UP after they joined the Vital Pet Group.....Even the flea treatments are expensive for 2 cats.....since it goes buy weight I have to get two different kinds....

I think things cost what they cost.  How do you judge "should?"  Isn't that something everyone decides for themselves?

How can you possibly say what something is worth to someone else?  Maybe it is the design, the quality of the paper, the pleasure of buying the card at a real stationery store?

Maybe it is a car you love, the way it drives, looks, or the safety rating.  Maybe you like buying from the dealer and money is not the motivating factory.

Maybe you like the coffee, or the look of the machine, or it was a pleasurable experience where you bought it and the demo of what it would they would.  Or they gift wrapped it beautifully.

What "should" anything cost, or how "should" we make buying decisions?  Is there a rule for everyone?  I really doubt any two of us buy something for exactly the same value, economic situation, reason, need, or want.

@Sooner   This is so well said.  I agree with you.

I just wanted to comment that I enjoy buying and sending cards.  I spend a lot of time picking them out.  Even though I think they are expensive, the pleasure it gives me to know how much the recipient enjoys them is worth it.  My niece called me after receiving her birthday card a couple of months ago and told me it was the cutest card she had ever seen.  I sent the same one to my friend and she said the same thing.  She said her husband said that card was a keeper.  I also enjoy receiving cards and keep them displayed for a while.

@NickNack

I still send and receive cards.  At Christmas I look for cards that are unique in quaint little shops or online....and some of my friends/family have even framed the cards.....

I'm sure the new cardiologist will not take advantage of u financially -- and will give ur dog the best care. Banfield is the KING of RIP-OFFS. Google their name and you'll see hundreds/thousands of complaints about them all across America.
