Last one from an Italian grandmother:

"You don't need to spend that much time in the bathroom getting ready.  I didn't make you that ugly."

Re: Things Your Mother Said To You

My mother really didn't have any wisdom "quotes."  Since I was the only girl & the oldest, I grew up hearing from my mother the following... "2 queen bees cannot live under the same household.  One of us is going to die & it ain't going to be me."

Both my parents worked.  My mother kept a seperate "rainy day" savings account that my father never knew about.  Everytime when my my mother took me to the bank she always said, "Never let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.  You'll never know if you'll have a rainy day."

I never knew what she meant until my wedding day.

When my father died, she closed out the "rainy day" account & gave my daughter the $$$.  My daughter has a "rainy day" account. whistling.gif

My father was the one w/all the "wisdom quotes."

"Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

@SahmIam What a joy she must have been. Did you move out the day you turned 18?

"Remember, whatever you do tonight you have to look at yourself in the mirror in the morning light".  Kept me from making some bad decisions as a teenager.  Sure miss her.

I heard a LOT of these regularly....

Wait til your father gets home .

Stop crying, or I'll give you something to cry about.

If everybody else jumped off a bridge, would you?

You have nothing to do? Go bang your head against the wall...or Go play in traffic.

@AuntG Yes, I did. I did not, however, cut her out of my life 100% until 13 years ago. I always felt an obligation to her simply because, she was my mother. I would have taken care of her, given her a wonderful life but her choices deemed it necessary to eliminate her from my and my childrens' life forever.

Reading previous comments by other's makes me so sad. My mom was so gracious and a happy woman all of her life. She was well educated and confident. She shared and was happy to teach family and friends, if asked for help. Most of the time, she didn't offer advice. Her guidance was provided by how she LIVED her life. She did, however, have a few really wise comments throughout the years that stood out:

Prove yourself to others. Your reputation will open doors in later life.

Pay yourself first and tithe second.

Don't look down when modeling. Tripping is a hazard; the fall is long and hard!

Invest wisely and have an excellent broker; remain educated on stocks and investing.

Lois (housekeeper) will be here tomorrow. We need to pick everything up. Smiley Happy

Never buy a home you cannot afford on one income and a 15-year mortgage.

The things we worry about the most usually don't happen.

Travel extensively; it is a huge part of your education.

Laugh heartily. It's fun and good for the soul.

A home without books, music and art is just a house.

People with pets are usually affectionate with their partners.

Don't smoke in my car if the top is up!

Where are you going? With whom? When will you be home? Have fun. I love you.

 I'm cold. Take a jacket.

Money screams; wealth whispers.
