I do think the stealing becomes worse by the year, but it's not new and it's hasn't been confined to holiday decor for many years.
I don't do outdoor holiday decor, but I've "lost" a number of beautiful hanging plants from my front yard' the first I remember disappeared in the 1970's, a splurge asparagus fern we bought to celebrate a new home. That one still hurts for some reason.

Oh @Suziepeach I more than hear you . . . I had an aunt and uncle that lived on a remote plot of land (it used to be a caretakers house for a farm). They were robbed at least once a year and the police told my uncle that if he ever shot anybody to remember to drag them inside the house before calling the police (this is before the CSI shows) . . . I cannot abide by people that steal as they are not taking things that are necessary to survive so poverty or desperation is not the problem. It's just mean.

@momtochloe, it is just mean!! Like with my daddy, he was a senior citizen and probably the culprit was someone he knew but by golly that ended as fast as it started. I sure hate that about your Aunt and Uncle, I honestly believe some people get a thrill out of doing crimes but again that falls back on just being mean!!

I am so glad your father took the action that he did . . . how could you take advantage of a person like that and him being a senior citizen on top of it!
My aunt and uncle robber's were so bold the police believe they actually backed a truck up into their driveway as they stole their grand piano . . . can you imagine?!?!!?!?

@momtochloe, their grand piano??????? OMGosh that's horrendous!! I can't imagine someone or thugs having that big of Christmas balls to do that!!!! Shoot, people don't give a rats patoot who they take advantage of.. if they want it, it doesn't matter as they strike regardless!!
Like I tell my husband, hail sure is getting crowded!!!

Unfortunately, but anything you put in your yard all year long for decor needs to be chained and locked down. This is the only way our Christmas decorations weren't
"removed" by neighborhood criminals who visit to collect their own items.
My DH actually years ago began using long chains and padlocks under scenery, etc. and locking it down in ways it can't be lifted without extreme difficulty and/or noise. Now , we have the flood lights that come on when anyone walks in front of where they are beamed and it lights up everything!
Everything we put out now lasts for years, PTL !

This type of thing literally frosts me at any time of the year. We live in a relatively safe neighborhood ~ meaning we have never had any trouble. That being said, I always follow my dad's advice. Make sure you attempt to keep the honest people honest. I bought two sets of Bliss lights. One I put on our two story deck, the other I was going to put out front, but had a change of heart due to the reason of this post. We have a standard schnauzer whose bark causes grown men to wet themselves, but not wanting to chance fate, did not put our second set by the street.
I am so sorry for those that have lost items. Truly sickening. Happy Holidays in spite !!
