They Call It "Deadliest Catch" For A Reason

[ Edited ]

It is with a heavy heart that news of fishing vessel Scandies Rose has sunk on its way to Dutch Harbor, in Alaska, on Tuesday.

Only two people were rescued from a life raft, the other five are missing at sea.

The search has been called off after an extensive search.

The captain was a third generation crab fisherman.

It is the start of king crab season in Alaska.

The Scandies Rose’s last known position was 170 miles southwest of Air Station Kodiak, on Kodiak Island. Coast Guard officials said at the time of the search, winds were whipping at more than than 40 miles per hour and the seas were 15 to 20 feet.

This tragedy has no doubt sent shock waves through out the fishing community, as all crabbers know each other.

Thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends of those who were lost.

Thanks for posting.  I love fresh, wild seafood, but it does come at a cost.

That's so sad, especially at the beginning of King season.   I really like that show.

This type of news cuts through hearts the entire fleet. May they have peace fill those hearts.

I was familiar with the TV show title, but never wached it.  That is very sad.  Any of the people on board featured on the TV show?
