Without a doubt ,for the most part it is on line shopping ,that is causing this, and then quality of things.

In Seattle, Macy's, Penney's, and Sears are in trouble, but I don't think the brick and morter stores will all meet their demise. People still want hands on experience and instant gratification for some of the things they buy. Even Amazon, the king of online purchases, has a brick and morter store here, and it's doing fine. There will be fewer physical stores, but they won't all disappear.

@NameAlreadyTaken wrote:I really hate to hear this. I do not like to see anything or anybody filing bankruptcy. It means people have failed, people have lost jobs, more people whose families are stressed by financial woes. It also means our clothes may not fit properly from here forward as manufacturers will not care about sizing as we will be dependent on them and we will wear what they halfway construct whether sizing is true or whether it fits the charts shown.
We will be totally dependent on a machine for what we wear, a machine that will not talk to us, that evil computer which, to me, is the double-edged sword, good for a few matters, but so horrible overall and the worst part is that everything is becoming dependent on it, even to the gas stations, the water works, the farmers.
I made a living long before computers were the normal, as did others. I had more personal friends than Facebook friends, I attended church more frequently. What does the computer have to do with church attendance? When one works from home, either employed or self-employed, employers and self expect a greater commitment to work than to church. Our society only respects one religion at this time, and that is not mine.
People are more committed to running to Facebook for sociliazation than friends they made or would make in the workplace, in social clubs, through church, volunteer and charitable works, political and social involvement, through their children's or spouse's friends, etc.
I do believe the computer is the root of all evil. It has caused lives to be taken through the games that are on line, it has caused jobs to be abolished, caused people to attend church less frequently, to do less volunteer and charitable work and we give money on line to what, and to whom and they can hide how it is being spent because we never see the fruits of our money. Sorry, on my soapbox today. I lost my job due to computers a few years ago, way before I retired from my self-employment. My daughter lost a very lucrative job. Now my son has been caught in the trap. These jobs are not going to be replaceable. These jobs, very high-profile jobs, will never return. Computers, cheap labor, the end of a great country, a great and charitable self-sufficient country.
If you look at what Bill Gates and his wife do for charity through the UN, all they do is not worth one human life that has been lost due to embellishing their financial status. Every penny they give is an evil penny. Even if they gave it all, they could never essuage their guilt due to the lives lost, the financial ruin to those families where the families are destroyed by their financial crisis, families where have been suicides or lives lost by mass murderers, and we see that not only those lost but the damage to perpetrators families. We did not have all these rashes of mass murders until gaming on computers. Every mass murderer has been a big computer geek, has spent time on line more than with others, and all the suicides I know of are the same. No amount of pills is going to cure a society of mass murderers, suicide victims or financially and spiritually bankrupt people
Now off my soapbox.
You sound like that guy on Mad Men who went nuts when they installed the computer in their office. Also ironic that you're using a computer to rant about the evils of computers.

Some of these stores have been on this list for a couple of years. Not much new here.
Customer service is almost non-existent now. Shopping online I get better customer service via live chat. I have been offered free shipping, free replacements, and other perks without asking. They locate the size or style I want also without me having to ask....love it. I know I saved a lot of money putchasing online. The discounts and codes are out there if you know where to look. It's the way customers were treated in every store not so long ago.

Only the behavior of mankind is the root of evil imo. The retailers I work for are doing exceedingly well and are growing....

I do a combination of brick and mortar and online shopping...but it seems these days I'm getting more and more irritated with online purchases, it's not the utopia some lead us to believe.............
1. I want my stuff NOW I dont want to wait even a day or two....and boy you pay for that "prime" service which on some occasions doesnt always deliver........
2. I am tired of returning clothes that are subpar quality in fabric, and inconsistent sizing (QVC included) I prefer to see clothes in person and try them on now......
3.Merchandise has arrived broken or an order was incomplete, or they sent the wrong item!!!!!
4.During busy seasons like Christmas you are lucky to get your order delivered on time, even when you order epecially early--the delivery services dont hire enough people to keep pace with demand...........And in some cases the shipping charges are ridiculous and the charge for Prime service is not worth it unless you order A LOT....
5. When you call CS to ask a question with an online retailer you dont always get someone that can answer a question about a product, or about your order they seem to read from a script ........When I go to a TRUSTED STORE in person (emphasis on TRUSTED---I seem to get better service)
6. Then you have to contend with the possibility of thefts since now there are criminals that follow UPS and FED EX trucks around and when they drop packages off they run and pick them up......then you have to deal with "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY PACKAGE".....the store says they sent it, UPS/FED EX confirms they delivered and your left to sort out the problem..........![]()
7. As these gigantic online stores continue to expand services and continue to get bigger and bigger the CS will get worse, the prices will go up, and lots of local people will lose their jobs.....I see this starting to happen right now......JMHO
I for one hope the local shopping options remains in place.....
