I used to have a co-worker who would literally burst in to tears if she didn't get her way.
Used to.
She has since moved on, and has left the company.
Good riddance.
Yet, some of my co-workers fell for her tears, every...time.
But I soon got tired of her constant "poor me!" victim mentality, a lot of which, she brought on to herself.
I had no tears for her when she left.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to Narcissitic Personality Disorder.

I have noticed this on People magazine FB page. Everyday some celebrity is “opening” up about some incident, issue, problem, outrage, injustice.....meanwhile living an incredible life. How “they” don’t make it easy as they hop on a private plane for yet another glamorous trip. Now don’t get me wrong , of course celebrities have human problems like the rest of humans do but victimhood really does get them attention.

She always needed something or other, always knocking on my door at inopportune times. She was an attention hog. I would have paid her much more attention if she could have been pleasant for once.
@Grouchomarx , Bingo, you nailed it. I had a friend once who was a real drama queen, in spite of that I was very fond of her, until once when I needed her support and to listen to my problem, she couldn’t be bothered. That was my wake up call to cut her loose.

@Cats3000 wrote:Yes, there is "victimhood" and there are "victimologists". It's much too political a discussion for this place.
While there can be political connotation, it is much more an issue with society in general and how we view eachother.
We have to be careful because some people cry “ victimhood, “ when they themselves have zero compassion. It can become a handy excuse for nor caring.

I do think we have to be careful as crying “ victimhood,” can be a handy excuse for a lack of compassion and not caring.

It is not an issue of compassion, that is the argument used to pit one side against the other. Just because you do not agree on something does not mean there is no compassion. It is getting to a point where there has to be a villian, when sometimes life is just not fair. Most of us were taught that at an early age, society now says everything must be fair. Thus creating classes of victims because life is not fair.

Thank you for the excellent overview of what defines a "professional victim". I encounter people every day that, for some reason, look at the negative versus looking at the positives of their situations and or lives. I can say that most of the people I encountered were seeking attention and or wanted to get some type of material gain.

Yes indeed, people love to play the victim on the forums, their feelings get hurt, not everyone loves them, and then they have to take time-off the forums to get attention, LOL!!!
