What was something that cost a lot of money that you can now find for pennies at yard sales?
For me, it's the VCR (it literally took me about 2 minutes to think of what it was called). It was $699.99 in 1980 when I was born.

This is a clothes dryer from 1959. It looks amazingly similar to the basic (not a pedestal type/match for high end washer) dryer I have now.
It was $419.95 then, and that's about what I paid for mine a couple of years ago. It was a much larger percentage of the average income back then than it is now.

My parents paid $13,000 for the house I was raised in!!! My car costs twice that now!!! (My parents moved the year the last one of us married into a much nicer, larger home!!!)

The year I was born, 1954, my dad was the general manager of the local Wonder Bread plant. Twinkies and Hostess cupckaes for all!
He made about $20,000 and had about 300 people who reported to him. That was considered to be a GREAT salary, since our house cost about $15,000...plus all the baked goods we wanted!
