Everyone is so mad at Sony and the theater groups for pulling the movie, they seem to be missing the point... look who we're dealing with here. Sure, show the movie so everyone will be happy and Sony and Hollywood and the theater owners won't be cowards. Yes, it's infringing on our rights of freedom of speech, but is it worth even one life to show this movie?

It would only take one bomb in one theater full of movie goers, and it wouldn't only blow up the theater, it would blow up the whole situation. If the NK govt actually is behind this, how can anyone be sure they wouldn't do what was threatened? This is a dangerous situation. Is a movie really worth the possible consequences?

If it were just some regular hackers, it would be different. But the govt is now pretty certain that NK is behind it. Those spineless cowards at Sony etc. may be saving hundreds of lives.. but we'll probably never know for sure.

They aren't saving any lives, if anything they're costing more down the road showing the world how easy we cave.

A movie company caved, our country hasn't. I for one will wait and see while cooler heads decide how to respond. If I counted on the hotheads on these forums to respond in this situation, I'd be running for cover. Have fun with your "discussion". {#emotions_dlg.blink}

And where are they going to show it when the theaters play it?

That would be a moot point at this moment in time.

The theaters dropped it before Sony pulled it. You can't show a film without a venue.

They too, are spineless cowards.

If 1/2 the theaters in the country hadn't dropped it the movie would be shown as scheduled. You can't blame Sony for their actions.

Sorry for the typos. My computer is really slow.

I call B S.

Sony has pulled the plug on the XMAS release of "The Interview," after a number of theater chains bailed.

Sony execs felt their out was if distributors yanked the film because of safety concerns. That would give Sony an out without directly bending to the hackers. Sony just released a statement, saying, "In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release."

The statement goes on, saying, "We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public."

The execs are underscoring the distinction between pulling the film because of the distributors rather than out of fear, saying, "We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

The sequence of events is fact. Half the theaters in the US cancelled the screening. Sony pulled it. Everything else is speculation.

If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for action from our govt. JMO. Nations know by now that his red lines in the sand just blew away and meant nothing. And that's NOT JMO.

Easy peasy. Release it for FREE on the Internet. Problem solved.

Free? They're in the business of making money.

I'm sure theaters and Sony will wait until the anticipation and curiosity has built so high that even people who never had an interest in the movie will rush out in droves and happily dish out the money when it comes out in theaters in the near future.

IMO we're all pawns in this and it's a huge scam.

They aren't making any money by withholding it either. Their reputation for freedom and freedom of artistry has been tarnished. Hope it was worth it.

The public has a very short memory. This won't hurt them. People want to be entertained. The actor/s is all that matters.

I agree that the movie will eventually be released one way or another, and will probably do well because of the publicity. I'll add that I find it odd for anyone to even entertain the idea that this brouhaha has "brought the country to its knees."{#emotions_dlg.blink} One entertainment company has chosen to stop the premiere of one film, certainly hasn't even verified the film never will be seen. It's probably a temporary delay. As said before, it has potential of being a worrisome precedent set by a business, it's an interesting topic for discussion, but not an earth-shattering commentary on our government, for heaven's sake.

It's weird to me because it sounds just like propaganda directly out of the North Korean leader's mouth.

Obviously it hasn't brought us to our knees so why repeat it or even acknowledge it? It's nonsense.

If anyone is interested, Google Steve Carell's North Korea movie that has been scuttled due to this.
