@NickNack wrote:I can't imagine anyone thinking that someone spent two weeks alone, broke their leg and burned themself, for a story. This is the first I've heard of anyone thinking she was faking it. I've watched and read a lot of news stories about this and haven't heard anything like that until now.
@NickNack, you must be like me and don't look at comments on other social media. I bet they abound with such theories -- they always do.

I don’t see the need for criticism. She’s human, she made a mistake, maybe should have taken her phone.....but, there may be a reason she didn’t. Maybe no cell phone signal where she was walking?
I don’t know, but I do walk, run, and hike alone most of the time. In an ideal world, it’s nice to have a buddy, but coordinating my exercise time with friends is challenging. I refuse to sit home and miss my outdoor exercise time just because no one else is available when I am.
I also volunteer in a regional park and see that most of the hikers are also alone or sometimes with a dog. It’s just what people do, and accidents/getting lost rarely happen.
As another poster mentioned, you shouldn’t live your life in fear!
Did anyone say that she should have just stayed home?
I walk all the time by myself because I prefer it. I don't talk on the phone or text while out, but I carry it just in case I need it. I just think that's being smart, not "living in fear".
If you are walking, hiking, running (whatever) in an unfamiliar place, it would be smart to know how to enter and exit whether or not you can get a phone signal.

There is no movie deal. The captain of the rescue team said that there was no kidnapping and that this ordeal was straight out of a movie. There had been speculation that she had been kidnapped.
He said that it takes nothing to become disoriented-just by turning aside or around from where you are standing.
I'm not surprised at the remarks here; there is a core of people who will never give another person a break.

Until there is some evidence to the contrary, I have no reason to not believe her. Victim shaming has really gone off the rails around here.
@Ms tyrion2 She is not a victim as you stated above. No one dragged her into the jungle and held her there. She made a mistake and didn’t use basic common sense. If she’s a victim it’s due to her own actions. However, I don’t believe one can be a victim of their own actions. I call that consequences for bad decisions. It’s good everything turned out well for her, but hardly movie worthy as is currently being discussed.
@Ketra ,
She is the victim of an accident that left her with a broken leg. I'm stunned you haven't heard the term "victim of an accident" before.
I also don't believe in flogging someone for "consequences of bad decisions".
These are my opinions and I don't really need a lecture on why you disagree.

I heard she fell down a ravine. Also heard she’s a physical therapist and have heard yoga instructor. I know she can be both.
Maybe she wasn’t smart leaving her phone behind, choice of shoes, whatever, and no doubt she won’t make those mistakes again.
I think she IS courageous and resourceful and loves life. I’m glad she survived and was found.

@QueenDanceALot There were comments about her being stupid for walking alone. So although no one said she should have just stayed home, I was pointing out that often, we have no alternative.
Reports said she had hiked in this area many times before. She likely felt confident of her route and with not having her phone, but she simply made a wrong turn somewhere. She’s human, not stupid.

@KingstonsMom Your siggie is perfect for these photos, this story. I’ve heard it reported that she said her choices were life and death and she chose life.

Look at her poor feet, they're beyond swollen. I don't doubt her one bit.

OK, thanks for clarifying.

It was stated she didn't take her phone with her because it was her down time, not to be bothered. My first thought was that anyone who hikes knows anything can happen that will disable them and would automatically have that phone safely tucked away in a pocket. I'm glad she was found and hope she learned a valuable lesson, take your darn phone with you!!!!!!
