The gourmet holiday & other food shows on QVC

I'll give these hosts credit. I've had QVC on quite a bit today. Gourmet Holiday is on now. It occurred to me that I could never host the food shows. These hosts do a great job of sampling each item presented. I couldn't do it if I had to sample an item I wouldn't care for in "real life".

I don't eat seafood so no way no way could I try the salmon, shrimp, etc. I don't like peanut butter and nuts in things so yet more things I wouldn't try and the list goes on

I'm apparently a picky eater-LOL.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: The gourmet holiday & other food shows on QVC

I am quite sure that when Q has these food shows, the hosts & hostesses are carefully picked depending on the type of food being shown.

One hostess has mentioned quite a few times she can only eat gluton free items.

There may be a few who are allergic to seafood as well as peanut butter.

Then there are some who do not eat anything at all but do an excellent hard sell as if it's the best food they have ever had all w/o eating a thing or doing a happy dance on air. Smiley LOL

I Am in total admiration of the hosts who present food and scents.....it has got to be incredibly difficult to describe a scent.....if you have a 'Foodie" like David, he breaks down the flavors he tastes and the texture: you have somewhat of an idea of what that product will taste like. Food is something we can all identify with, but to me, the hosts-on any channel- who sell scents are amazing.  I rarely wear anything scented, and that is not a criticism of those who do, but my point is, no matter what shopping channel you are watching, you really need training and practice so that you are convincing and real.

Kudos are in order!

They must be doing something right because I ordered the smoked turkey breast with the two sides. I cook all of the time , so I thought it would be a nice change. I didn't see any reviews so we'll see.

I felt badly for Sharon today when she had to try that chicken and dumplings concoction being sold.  It looked awful.

@gidgetgh  You might have a change of heart (and taste buds) if you got the financial compensation that the QVC hosts get.   Think of all you could buy at Talbot's!  Smiley Happy

I don't know what it is, but almost all edibles of any kind that QVC shows look gross to me. It's the camera work, the angles and close-ups, and the fact that it's on video instead of film. Show me an extreme close-up of some indeterminate goop and it makes me want to toss my cookies more than eat them. Watching food close-ups on any of the various food channels doesn't affect me this way at all, just on QVC.

Also the food handling. Seeing candy or dried fruit squished and squeezed, or heaven-knows-what goo ooze out of something after it's poked and prodded is the opposite of appetizing to me. Telling me how juicy something is when it doesn't appear juicy at all just makes me disbelieve all claims about it and reinforces that what hosts and vendors claim is often far from the truth.

And then we have the freshness factor. If something is baked on a Friday, shipped on a Monday and received the following Friday *with no preservatives*, when you receive it, it's not going to be as moist as it looks during a demo.

Re: The gourmet holiday & other food shows on QVC

I come from a family that has no picky eaters. I was an adult before I realized how many people were so fussy about food (and I'm not talking about people who have food allergies or intolerance, that is a totally different and serious thing). We all eat about 98% of what is put in front of us. Sure, we each like some things better than others, but wouldn't have a problem eating just about anything.

I think certain hosts are chosen to do most of the food shows because they are the same way. Simply not picky eaters, enjoy all kinds of food, and aren't grossed out by food in general, or the handling and demonstrating of them.

I like the food shows...and I find that most of the food looks delicious to me...what I don't like...is the one female host that does most of the shows...she is too much of a drama queen ...with every bite she goes through such ecstasy ....I much prefer David....Dan...or Rick...they know how to show how food should be eaten....
