Not all trees are living, the dead one's are not being cut down and cleared, the densely populated forests are not being thinned.
I'm sorry you have the fires but until someone realizes that this needs to be done, fires will continue every year, I understand there are people who are using the court system to block tree thinning.
Your reply is spot on. We have these fires every year and it is due to the fact that the forests are not being maintained.

The forests absolutely need to be maintained and properly raked.
To deny that is denial.

Fires are an annual natural phenomena; it's how Nature cleans up debris making it possible for new growth to flourish. Until California starts to do a better job of maintaining the forests, the fires will continue to get worse. These fires aren't just affecting the West Coast; the smoke has traveled across the country and has affected air quality 3,000 miles away.
Well, I've lived in CA for many years, and the idea that the problem is primarily "poor management" is just ridiculous.
The primary problem is the ongoing DROUGHT. If it doesn't rain, massive areas of not only forests, but farmland dry out, and all the "managing" in the world cannot do much to help the situation.

If it's the drought, then instead of waiting around for a fire to have planes dump water on the forests, they should be proactive and dump water to prevent a fire from getting started.

Seriously? It IS the drought .... and just how does anyone determine WHERE to proactively "dump water" to prevent fires?
Look at a map of the western U.S. states and see how many hundreds of thousands of square miles you are talking about. It's approx 1/4th of the entire U.S. Where are all those water-dumping planes coming from?
Not to mention how many thousands of miles might supposedly be protected by this idea, what can anyone do about arson? They just pick a place that hasn't had water "dumped" in the area.
That is not the answer. I doubt it would even help a little bit.

I just pray for the people in CA.
WHERE does this idiotic idea come from?
It's not feasible because hundreds of thousands of square miles would have to be raked to make any difference ..... and that would come AFTER all the burning fires have been put out.

@Teddixat wrote:@occasionalrain . I hope you understand that many people live in the area they were born in or grew up in and stay for many reasons and many people cannot just move somewhere else. Not everyone can choose to live wherever they want
What's also not being considered is that when many people began to settle in those areas many years ago, there was no threat of massive fires like there is today.

@occasionalrain Dumping water that is already in scarce supply would only make our water shortage worse.
