The end of AM radio in cars?

[ Edited ]

Washington Post had an article about many automakers eliminating AM radio in new electric cars ( and Ford in all cars) and how this change will impact the future of AM. We haven't listened to AM in a car in 15 years ( much prefer XM). Feelings?

I can't remember the last time I tuned into an AM radio station.  I guess it's OK with me.  I suspect the decision to eliminate AM radio reception was made as a cost-saving effort by the automobile manufacturers?

I only listen to FM in my car but not that often. Actually forgot there was AM radio there.

ETA-

I'm not buying a new car any time soon so it doesn't matter to me whether or not there is any kind of radio in the car or not.

I mostly listen to FM but sometimes AM.  I also like to have a CD player.

Some construction zones and up here, the Mackinac Bridge Authority broadcasts weather (high wind, vehicle escort required, one lane only) info on AM radio.

Limited range broadcast but nice to know in advance before you get to a toll booth.

Not broadcast on XM 😁

I listen to both, but mostly to AM because it has an oldies station. Haven't found any FM stations that just plays mostly oldies.

I have Sirius radio and haven't listened to regular radio in eons. My husband enjoys the AM stations in his car to listen to the ball games.

Every time I read about something else that is being taken, it makes me wonder how much longer will people remain silent. Little by little we are being delegated to someone's whims. It is a very sad state of affairs.

I haven’t listened to AM or FM in years. Platforms and technology change.
