I like regional dialects. I don't like hoity toity pretentious pronunciations which sound unnatural.
Not sure what pronunciations would be considered 'hoity toity', but I enjoy different (many of them anyway) accents. Most words do have a correct pronunciation, however, but I'm noticing in recent years that additional pronunciations are being added to dictionaries. Some of it seems like dumbing down of the language but some of it seems appropriate.

O-MG! Having grown up in N. CA I heard way too much of that. It usually seemed like people would do it for the express purpose of being rude, too.
San Francisco is a dear city that has always been close to my heart. I even have one room of my house decorated with pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, which I've also always loved. 'The City', as it was sometimes called when I grew up, has always been in my heart.

Your post made me think of how different people pronounce "New Orleans."
I think I've heard them all . . .
New OAR - linz
New OR - lee - uhns
New or - LEENZ
N'awlinz
But, I don't know how the natives pronounce the name of their city?

I don't know if there is one preferred pronunciation for New Orleans, either.
If there is, maybe somebody can tell us. For me it was always New Or-LEENZ. If I'm wrong, I have no problem being corrected.

Hi Sui
I *think* city natives say N'awlinz. I could be wrong though, as Randy Newman said, lol.
I kind of like that TV show, NCIS New Orleans, and I listen to the young guy that plays the sidekick. I love that kid. Does anyone remember him from the show he was in when he was about 10? "Someone's at the door, someone's at the door."

I grew up about 90 miles from there, and you are correct. It is pronounced this waw.
