I was playing "The Voodoo Twist" when trick or treaters came to my door, a wonderful little ditty by Johnny Winter and several children who came trick or treating made fun of it. i have to believe they have no understanding of classic music. The song was released in 1961 and has been a Halloween favorite of mine for decades. It makes me question why we even bother with Halloween if children disrespect their elders.

I understand you feeling disrespected but in fairness, can we really expect children in 2019 to understand or appreciate what is somewhat a novely stong from the 1960's...

When I read the opening post, I let out a very big sigh. As my oldest daughter would exclaim, "I can't"!

Not familiar with the song and it's not on my Oldies But Goodies CD's but I listened on line and still did not remember it. I don't know what the kids did to make you feel disrespected or their ages but an obscure song from 58 years ago they can't relate to. Sorry you felt that way.

Why would kids who are on the run from house to house take time to make critical comments about a Halloween song? The goal is to have fun & get as much candy as they can in a short period of time so I find it hard to believe they care what music is playing.

They probably just thought it was a funny song.
And really, to expect the children of today to know about some obscure some from over half a century ago, is asking for too much.

Johnny Winter's classic is Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo. Never heard of the Voodoo Twist.

"The Voodoo Twist" is not a classic. It never even made the charts. Just because something is old doesn't mean it's a classic. The song is not even good.

Halloween is for the CHILDREN first and foremost.
Your taste in music should not have any impact on how you feel about giving out candy for the little ones.
I never heard of your song before and I have no idea how it relates to Halloween.
The music we play at our door has sound effects like howling wolves, doorbells ringing, spooky laughs, etc.
We make it scary-fun for the children to visit!
My favorite Halloween songs would be Monster Mash, Addams Family Theme and Rocky Horror Time Warp, and so forth.
