Yes, I have witnessed this kind of behavior many times. I worked in the shipping and supply department of, a then big department store of the time, and some of the things I saw customers do and say? I ain't talking about nowadays, but back in the 1950's. Times have changed, but there were some "of those people" even back in that era of time when it came to how they treated the "help".

Nowadays people are always in a hurry and I'll bet if I asked all of them many would say "beats me", or something similar. I have had some that say things in a nice way and I have no problem letting them ahead of me or stepping aside for them. As for the others that are just plain rude? They not only hear from me but anyone in the vicinity hears it also. I won't got to physical battles with anyone over simple things, but I will certainly do verbal battle with them.

For those that think these things are exclusive to "the times"? Take my word for it that my few years working all floors of an 8 floor department store had it's share of rude/impolite and downright mean people.

Behaving like that in public, sure would hate to see her on wheels, behind closed doors! Some people just feel they are "entitled". How sad that behavior is.

I take it this was a sporting good store? Maybe her team was playing and she had to show her team spirit. If you don't win, I'm going to kill someone. Could you imagine if she had a kid in little league. Or if she was shopping for something really important? Special occasion outfits? Yikes. Some people should just shop online so the public is safe to enjoy.

Some people are just naturally mean and aggressive and like to see how far they can push people. These people for the most part, are very unhappy people and love to make others unhappy. They seem to get some kind of pleasure out of causing distress and discord. To try and retaliate or one up them, does no good. Just adds fuel to the fire and escalates the situation. Although it's not fair that these people get to act this way, it's best to just give them a wide berth and let them have their way.

Lol because this is a message board and people can't wait to jump on bandwagons. Hence, the expert diagnosis from the "first responder" : mentally ill. The only thing I know is that I certainly wouldn't have engaged someone acting like that. Oh, and had I been the SA, I wouldn't have been talking about a customer with another customer. One need not have worked in retail to know how unprofessional that is.

Sorry OR, but I agree with Meow. Just because you are mean, loud and self centered, it does not mean you are mentally ill.

I think far too many use mentally ill as an excuse for bad behavior.

I don't see where the sales person was unprofessional. He apologized to the OP, and then said he'd speak to his manager.

As far as diagnosing this woman, everyone is an armchair psychologist around here. lol

I believe that many mean, hateful, and envious people are mentally ill. If they got the professional help they need they would understand their outlook and learn to look at things differently. Sure, there are mean folks out there but not all of them will seek help to find out what the real issues in their life have been to lead them to be the way they are.
