The kid photographing was not Hector's son. He was the babysitter's boyfriend and was asked by Hector to photgraph the party. Why did his wife have the party when her husband didn't want one?

Everyone thought he was going to get a big promotion so he probably didn't mind the idea of a birthday party when his wife was initially planning it.

I thought it was a little strange that the babysitter worked at the wife's clinic and that Hector invited her when he saw her. His wife didn't say anything to her when she arrived like, I didn't know you were coming.

I take it the family is Greek. Is Hector a common Greek name?

lulu.... I don't know how common Hector is..... but it comes from the name Hektor who was killed by Achilles; Hektor was a Trojan champion. It means ""to check"".

The wife annoyed me and according to some, maybe most, I'm easily annoyed. Still, I'm a wife and if I knew my MIL would bring all that great Greek food, I'd just let her and not spend hours making fruit/veggie plates especially if I were a busy doctor.

Seems the wife did her best to make her husband's birthday stressful. She badgered him to call his mother to prevent her from bringing food when she had to know his mother would do as she pleased, she's not a newlywed so she should know what to expect.

Then she invites people who don't fit in with the rest and, worst yet, have a son who is guaranteed to destroy everything he can get his hands on. A recipe for disaster. What was she thinking? If she as inept a doctor as she is a wife, I fear for her patients.

Suzy Snowflake, can you tell me what was the relationship of "the Kid"'s parents to the hosts of the party? I couldn't figure out if they were related or just friends.

I didn't understand it either, so I looked on the internet. I guess the mother of the boy who was slapped is a long time friend of Hector's wife, Aiesha. So is the woman who showed up to the party with the much younger boyfriend. The person who slapped the boy is Harry, Hector's cousin.

Thank you StaciesMom Smile

I don't like the wife, either. It seems that no matter what her husband's parents say or do, she will oppose it. Maybe when they get to her character we'll gain some insight regarding her animosity toward them, but from what I've seen so far I don't like her.

To address a post another poster (Not OR) made, why can't a child be on the autistic scale and also poorly parented? I've known poorly parented children who weren't as anti-social as that child is being portrayed. He doesn't seem to be able to relate to people at all. I'd consider that a bigger issue than his parents alone.

Haven't seen the show but I saw him slap that little boy and my stomach sank.

I can't stand to see kids being treated like that even if it's acting and a slap in the face is horrible & degrading.

If that happened to my son IRL?? 'The Slap' would be followed by 'The Stab' and the slapper's face would be grillin' on the BBQ.

I have never slapped anyone in my life but I felt like slapping that obnoxious child and his breastfeeding mother! I will try watching episode two but I don't have high hopes for it. I also agree that the relationship between the 40 year old man and the girl was creepy.

I just finished watching episode 2. I'm hooked. I love the narrator.
