I watched the Slap. Ho hum... Zzzz What bothered me also was the creepy relationship the guy was having or wanted to have with the young girl. E e w!

I know. Had the slap not occurred he might have kissed her but the commotion distracted him. So sleazy.

Plus when he was under the stairs ? He was pretty visible still .

lol, then he got all worked up from flirting with the very young girl he did his wife in the kitchen because of his guilty conscience. He looked the type that would need Viagra to perform that quicky one on the spot. {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I watched the first episode. It was different. It was kind of like a movie. I don't feel the child should have been slapped in the face. I don't believe in anyone being slapped in the face. I don't ever feel an outside person should be disciplining your child in such a way as to administer physical punishment. Admonishment is one thing and speaking to the parent is one thing. But to take it into your own hands is not appropriate. The child as he is portrayed in this show, seems to have deep emotional problems. The parental skills (or lack thereof) are atrocious and are only making his problems worse. He needs professional help.

I will watch some more as I find it intriguing if not totally likable. We'll see. There are a lot of good actors in this show. I'll give it more of a chance before I totally decide.

I recorded and watched last night not what I expected I liked it. Will be interesting to see the character development of each person. So much more than The Slap.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

RCG: I think you were the one who started to read the book - I wonder how much of the series will stay the course.

Have a good day everyone.

Suzy Snowflake, can you tell me what was the relationship of "the Kid"'s parents to the hosts of the party? I couldn't figure out if they were related or just friends.

I didn't understand it either, so I looked on the internet. I guess the mother of the boy who was slapped is a long time friend of Hector's wife, Aiesha. So is the woman who showed up to the party with the much younger boyfriend. The person who slapped the boy is Harry, Hector's cousin.

The kid who wore the camera and apologized was supposed to be playing with the kids.... he was asked by Hector to chaperone the kids.... but he decided to photograph the kids and the party and not do as his dad, the man who was having the birthday, asked....

The man who slapped the kid was drinking during the party.... and had been speaking loudly during the whole party....

The child who was slapped .... had been into some vinyl records in Hector's library and it looked like he had ruined a few (his mother just took him and said poor baby and breastfed him), then he was interacting with some other kids and threw someone's Ipad... and mommy again rescued him after Hector picked him up and took him to the back yard.... he then proceeded to pull the shrubbery and plants in the back yard and basically was not reprimanded for that....

Some of you want to put him in the autistic spectrum? I put him in the "poorly parented" spectrum....

The child was waving around a bat which he was asked NOT to use but insisted that he wanted to.... and again, had NO adult to supervise..... he was using a heavy bat to swing at a whiffle(sp?) ball.... and it was hard to watch all those others in danger....

There are so many other elements in this hour.... Hector who lost his job or didn't get promoted and didn't tell his wife until after the party.... many hours after it happened.... and he was using valium all day and the day previously.... so he seemed in a bit of a daze....

There were Hector's parents who gave him a "family" gift of a trip to Greece.... and set off more tension between Hector's wife and them.... the tension was already there..... part of it being that his wife is a doctor and they think that she can just drop everything and go on this trip, there is other tension between the wife and the MIL, seen in how the MIL wants to come and take over the birthday party....

I will continue watching....

*See bolded. Possibly a little of both. What didn't make sense to me as a mother of more than 1 child on the spectrum it didn't make sense that his mother who was supposedly so in tune (in other words protective) with the child was so lax on supervising him.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned the father not paying attention. That's nothing new....especially with special needs children. Not all fathers are that way but some just don't know how to relate so they pull away.

kaybee... your post is very insightful....

I worked with foster parents.... they took in children with special needs.... their birth parents had lost their parental rights; in a couple of cases they had voluntarily given them up. What I learned was that the birth mother had often become so overwhelmed and the rest of the birth family had suffered.

I applaud birth parents who can take care of special needs children and balance the needs of the rest of the family. it is not easy.
