I started shopping at Amazon when they only sold books and delivered them in a station wagon. He has come quite a ways!

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' net worth increased by
nearly $40 billion in 2017, the most of any billionaire,
according to Forbes.
When you break it down, Bezos raked in over $107
million per day in 2017. WOW !!!!

@Noel7wrote:What bothers me is that Bezos has apparently not embraced philanthropy. Bill Gates has and the Zuckerbergs have.
Several reports say Bazos is waiting to see what he wants to do. Seriously?
@Noel7 I guess his intention to market his own brand of OTC meds is taking up too much time for philanthropy.
I did not know that @Cakers3 !!! Is there a possible altruistic reason? Such as lower cost for meds?
@Noel7 At first I thought he was going to open up a prescription Pharmacy online but the last I read it is only an Amazon brand of OTC meds.
Bezos has donated a few millions for tuition for DACA recipients but I've been seeing rumblings that he is replacing full time workers with temps and more automation.
Which, of course, cuts out benefits and hikes up the # of his employees on food stamps.
He doesn't stand out at a major player in philanthropy but who knows what goes on in private. I do know that his newest Visa for Prime members through Whole Foods has a whopping 15% interest rate. That does not justify the cash back on that card, imo.
Anyway-I don't know all the details of the meds situation but last I saw it is only OTC meds. And since Amazon doesn't always have the lowest prices I'm not so sure there will be a $$ benefit but more of a convenience benefit.
15% isn't high for interest. 20% and more is actually pretty common. Many people pay it off in full so interest rates don't matter all that much for a lot of people, I don't think. Getting back 5% at Whole Foods is a deal. That being said, I am not yet interested in this card or any other new credit card.
@GingerPeachI know that the average right now is around 16% but our cards are much lower than 15%. Also, the rewards can only be used on Amazon. And of course you need to pay the $99 annual fee for Prime membership.
We really don't know how many people pay off their cards in full and for those that do that's fine. But holding out these bits of perks doesn't mean that there is yet another way open for people to assume more debt.
My point is that 15% may not seem like much but for some it is a high rate.
If you cannot use the cash back except at Amazon, that's another thorn for me-it limits consumers, imo.
As far as Whole Foods-we have seen a decline since Bezos took over. All the hype over Amazon's takeover seems to have been more hype than delivery.
@Corrected. Did the @ to the wrong poster.

He has a brilliant mind for business, of that there is no doubt.
His rise was inevitable.

I remember taking my son up to Davis for an SAT
language test, and while I was waiting, I was listening
to the talking heads on KGO radio discussing how
Amazon was not worth investing in...their only assets
were books, music cds, tapes, records. If only I had
purchased stock when it went public! Haha!

@tansywrote:I’m just not a big Bezos fan. Working at that company is very stressful. I realize I am in the minority regarding Amazon. 😕
We lost a huge number of bookstores in the PNW and then, years later, he opens up his own. I didn’t like the one I checked out in the mall near me.
I KNOW YOU'RE NOT IN THE MINORITY!!!!... I'M NOT A FAN EITHER.. I'M SURE HE HAS DONE CHARITABLE WORKS & WILL DO LOTS MORE IN THE FUTURE ...
SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I READ AN ARTICLE THAT STATED HE BERATES HIS EMPLOYEES ; & PEOPLE LEAVE THE COMPANY AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS... MAYBE THATS CHANGED NOW,.. BUT IT LEFT A SOUR TASTE IN MY MOUTH.. I TRIED TO FIND THAT ARTICLE, BUT COULDN'T; YET, INSTEAD I CAME ACROSS THESE TWO ARTICLES ABOUT HIM & HIS OPERATING PRACTICES..

I'VE NEVER SHOPPED AMAZON & HAVE NO INTENTION TO DO SO!!... I DO GIVE HIM LOTS & LOTS OF CREDIT FOR ACHIEVING THIS AMOUNT OF SUCCESS ...
