The Red Bell Pepper That Wouldn't Die

I love Bell Peppers.  I buy them a lot.  I buy green, yellow, orange and red.  I like to cook them sauteed with onions or just cut them up in a green salad.

About 1 1/2 months ago I purchased red peppers (final stage of glory) and I cooked them up quickly.  I sometimes forget what's in my fridge and forgot that I had this lone red pepper left from this purchase lurking in the back of the crisper in the fridge.  I pulled it out of its plastic bag because it was still firm.  I expected it to be wiltered soggy and a mushy mess that I needed to throw out.  Upon closer inspection, I see that it's not mushy, wiltered, soggy and withered looking. It has no bruises; no destabilization whatsoever.  I wrapped it up in the clear plastic it came in  and put it back in the refrigerator.

I've been checking on this red pepper for weeks and it won't rot or go bad.  I can't tell you how many times I have wasted good food like peppers because they've gone bad before I get a chance to eat them.   This pepper almost doesn't look old.  I know for a fact they go bad after a few weeks.  Doesn't matter if their in the refrigerator or not.

This red pepper and the many others I eat were purchased from Amazon Fresh.  I'm keeping it because I want to see how long it will take for it to go bad.  Something tells me its genetically modified, but geez.  I think they created a pepper that won't die......going on two months with a red pepper that is in pristine condition.  Afraid to eat it, but I did eat the others that were in that purchase.  I don't recall anything odd about those peppers.

GMO tomatoes never ripen, get rotten, but they sprout on the inside. In time little bumps appear under their skin, vines trying to escape. They never do escape, they are ever trapped.

If it's not in a plastic bag, it could've just sealed itself up in the dryness of the refrigerator and might be bad inside.

Avocados can look OK on the outside, and sometimes not too bad on the inside until you taste them. Then you know. Ha ha

@gertrudecloset @I had one that looked great on the outside for weeks but when I opened it to dressed it there was mold growing on the seeds.

@gertrudecloset   If you cooked the others up quickly from the same batch you would not have noticed anything odd.

Slice it open, if you dare.   Mwah Ha Ha...............

Vegetable of the month: Peppers - Harvard Health

@gertrudecloset

I will think of your bell pepper as we slice up ours for Italian sausage and peppers tonight. Heart

@Desertdi  I'm tempted to, but want to continue my experiment.  By month two of having it, I will be inquiring with Amazon Fresh about the source of these red peppers.  Besides, wouldn't it rot from the inside first, then rot on the outside.

[ Edited ]

@Mindy D So this pepper could be bad on the inside with no noticeable difference in look on the outside?  In all my life of buying and cooking bell peppers this has never ever happened to me.  Wow....I'm going to give it until the 2 month mark.
