While visiting friends for Thanksgiving, we drove by a mall and saw an adjoining parking lot literally filled with small van-type trucks with “Amazon and the single smile-line” logo.

Another part of the trip, we drove by an industrial complex with both white and black trucks with the same logo.  We even drove by a line of them getting onto a major highway !

Must be way cheaper for Amazon to by all these truck vans and their drivers than to pay other delivery services !

NEw York Times reported this week of the nearly

1/2 million packages delivered in NYC daily 90,000 are stolen. I was so schocked I reread it 3 times.

@Annabellethecat66 Chewy amazes me.  Three times, I have ordered 40lb bags of dog food, with one arriving in 12 hours, another in 16. One delivery did take two days. And, since I always throw in other dog requested items :-), I always get free shipping.

Amazon Prime has only failed in two day deliveries a couple of times, but they sent an e-mail about the brief delays.  I've been very pleased.

In fact, I just ordered some outside fairy lights and they are scheduled for delivery tomorrow -- Sunday. One day delivery.  Yay!

I receive packages from UPS, USPS and Amazon.

My biggest complaint is when the package starts off being handled by UPS and then gets handed over to USPS for the actual delivery. I HATE it because it adds another day (or two) to the delivery. I would rather have UPS deliver all my packages. Yes, I know I can upgrade for UPS delivery.

Right now I have a package that I've been tracking through USPS that's been sitting at the last scanned destination (York, Pa) since 12-3. For some reason my packages always seem to get delayed in York.

I've never had a problem with delivery through Amazon Prime. They've always been delivered when promised and they always ring the doorbell. Sometimes UPS and USPS rings the doorbell, but most times they don't. I just ordered an item from Amazon today and I received an email less than 2 hours later informing me that the item has shipped and I'll be receiving it tomorrow. I've never had an Amazon order delivered through USPS.

I feel sorry for the drivers of all delivery services. I imagine that they're all under tremendous pressure (especially this time of the year) to do more and more in less time.

I order my Bill his prescription food by 2 cases at the same time.

Last Spring several of the cans busted open and they refunded me a case.  I gave what wasn't busted to my friend (she works for the Vet and could easily tell what was good and not).

I just received 2 new cases and a few of them are very, very dented.  Monday or maybe tomorrow I'll call Chewy and let them know.

The problem is when it's packed in the box one case pushes on the bottom and it dents the bottom case.  You can tell it's only on one side of the case.

The young girl at Chewy last time told me to keep the printed numbers on the top of the box so I did this time.

It's only 4 or 5 cans on this one that's busted.

I figured everyone got a Chewy christmas card.  It's so cute.  I just received mine.

@jlkz Lately I've been seeing a lot of Amazon trucks.

So, I guess you guys have read/heard that Amazon is coming to Northern Va....Oh! Yea! Ugh!

We surely don't need the extra traffic here!  I live a little ways out and I guarantee you these people who aren't familiar with the area will be coming out our way to buy houses!

Good luck on that one!  I get companies all of the time sending me letters and calling me wanting to buy my house.

Not going to happen.  But anyone who buys out this way will be in for a surprise.  People don't understand it might not be that far from DC but traffic-wise it might almost be in another state!  Ha!

Amazon backed themselves into a corner...especially during the holiday season.....  As they draw more and more customers to their website they have no choice and need to invest more and more money in shipping and delivery to meet the expectations that customers have now.....And guess who is they are going to pass these added costs on to.....I'd really start to comparison shop....you will hear more and more Amazon isnt always the best price.....

And the negatives about online shopping are popping up too with "porch pirates".......

I wonder if we will see more and more of a trend of people ordering online but picking up at the store like Target & Walmart offer.....that way people still get their merchandise quickly and no worries about packages being stolen.....

i wonder if AMAZON LOCKER will become more popular? i noticed a bright yellow amazon locker in a 7 eleven store that i frequent. i asked them how long it had been there and he said a couple of weeks. they said it has brought them a TON of business. it is a good way to get around having packages stolen from your front door.

@SunSpriteThank you so much for your nice reply, it will definately be a tiring holiday for us both. Yes this time of year is very stressful and difficult for UPS workers. They do deserve our understanding. I know the company wants  to expand the building where my husband works already bought the land to do so, but the county is fighting them on it. Dont know why, the county makes money from ups being there with taxes and stuff, but they are causing so much trouble for them. There was complaints about all the truck traffic, so UPS had a different road put in to make it easier to get the trucks out of building and onto the highway, and then too many other drivers, not trucks, started using the road for convenience and that caused long lines of trucks trying to leave the building and get back to the building, so ups has to hire security during peak to direct traffic so that the trucks can get out and again the county started complaining about that and one person threatened to sue cause they did not like stopping and waiting for the trucks to get out. Right now ups  is having lawyers look into this situation. I think they may just move the whole hub to another county that appreciates the business more. Another post on hear said  that UPS is not hiring enough people to save money, well that is not true, They have ads up all the time for needed help, for every 20 people hired, only about two actually stay. It is a really demanding place to work, the money is there, but no too many people who want to work that hard for the money. Believe me, their profits were in the billions last year, they are not cutting corners to save money by not hiring enough employees, there are not enough to do the job.

@new nickname 4 You are so welcome, the internet shopping has been increasing every year, the company needs to expand more hubs and hire more people, they are working on that to be better able to meet the demands. Every area of a state is different as to what the demand is and some areas have a high demand but not enough work force. Our area is one of those. There are signs literally ever where in town for UPS hiring, and the county is giving the company problems about expansion. My husband has been with UPS for over thirty years, he was there way before this internet shopping fenzy took off, people forget this internet thing is not all that old and companies are trying to change to accomendate the new world we all find ourselves in. Luckily my husband will be able to retire soon, he said maybe six or seven years more. The pressure is really on the men and women at our local hub and they are really working beyond belief to get these packages out, they need more help and the help is not there. No one wants to work.

The locker is a good idea, but it will only be a matter of time for these smart crooks that use their brains for evil, to find a way to break into them...... Keep the personnel in a 7 Eleven store busy....ask for something that they have to go into the back room to check for....and someone can break in...or while it means more business, it might mean more robberies for 7 Eleven if the lockers are located inside the store....
