Dried-spices are sky high in price, in the $6-$7 range for a dang 2-oz bottle of curry and turmeric. Even chives and cinnamon are ridiculous. I used to snip fresh chives--maybe I should go back to that, but I do like the convenience of dried.
I got so fed up at the Wegmans spice aisle I made a beeline to the Indian section and picked up a 7-oz bag of curry for $2.49, as opposed to spending $6.99 for a 2-oz bottle of the Spice Islands brand (which also hails from India, BTW). Last year I discovered that Dollar General carries McCormick's cinnamon, chili powder, and garlic powder for $2 or so cheaper than the grocery store, so that's where I've been getting those--with expiration dates the same as those at Wegmans, so there goes that big lie.
Do any of you grow and snip your own?
