There was nothing surprising about his passing.  Most people expected it to come at any time.  He was 88 with chronic pulmonary insufficiency and multiple hospital stays over recent years.  He was not ambulatory and looked I'll.  Although he kept doing "the work" until he died.  I think it won't take long to choose a new pope.
