The Pineros' Christmas Card From the Depression

This witty, stiff-upper-lip Christmas card was made out of a brown paper bag by the Pinero family in Chicago, and sent to friends in Massachusetts.

Their wry little drawings of the family hemmed in by bills, and the wonderful little poem describing their predicament-- priceless!

This is the American spirit, and one to be celebrated.  I wish I had been around in 1933 and known the Pineros!

@Oznell  A blessed season to you.

I wonder why the search on Ancestry didn't find any info; the name seems to be still attached in Chicago.

I hope it can be traced back.  Somebody somewhere must know and a follow up story would be great.  The parents are most likely gone by now but the children could very well still be alive.

How interesting that it arrived with no street address.

I wonder if that little sideways 3 in the Chicago stamp would at least indicate an area of Chicago?

I don't know when single digit zip codes were used-maybe it is some type of early zip code?

I know @Cakers3;  part of the fun of it is the mystery.  What became of them?  They sound clever and adorable-- I'd like to think their descendants inherited some of that and were still bringing joy and walking the earth...

@Oznell  The others have beat me to it -- I signed in so that I could tell you I think it would be fascinating to spend a day with you just to observe how your mind works.  The gleanings you share with us from the Internet prove its worth.  Thank you.

Merry Christmas!
