The 18 year old is a half-brother to the 15 yr old murderer and his father, James, owes thousands in back child support to his ex-wife living in Florida. Money has been an ongoing problem in the family as was reported in an article I read. Not so much of a problem, however, that he couldn't afford to buy a nice new weapon for his troubled teen for Christmas. Mom did post on her IG that she and her son went target shooting so it seems they did spend quality time together. Yes, that was sarcasm. Sorry, this just makes me so angry.
These people have been having run-ins with the law for years including DUIs for both mom and dad, writing bad checks, driving on a suspended license and not having tags on their vehicle. James was terminated from his short term job as an independent contractor for reasons unknown.
What's the solution for people who live like this? Maybe designate a special place--like an island somewhere and let them all have at each other...guns and all. Make it a big one. We don't want to hear halfway into the process "We're gonna need a bigger island."

Reports are that the father and son went to the gun dealer, that this gun was bought for the boy, and that the mother took him to the shooting range for practice.
When the son was caught in school looking for ammunition on his cell phone, and his parents were called, he received a text from his mother saying he needs to learn how to do that "without getting caught."

It's time that parents are held accountable when children have access to guns in their home and commit crimes or accidentally kill other kids in the home. There is no excuse any parent can give for an underage person having access to a gun in their home. They should be locked up like the guns should have been.
There are millions of responsible gun owners but those that arn't need to be held accountable.

All of this undoubtedly has something to do with the charges of manslaughter being filed. The family sounds like trash.

@Kachina624, the reports of the gun being bought as a Christmas present has been substantiated by his posting and also the mother's posting.

on the news today, I heard the mother texted the son. “Don’t do it”. Too late it was after the shooting started. Local radio cbs station. So, so sad.

That doesn't surprise me. They are scared as bleep now because they know they are going to prison for years.

No one believes that. They can turn themselves in to the police and be safe behind bars. What are they waiting for.....one last date night?

I just shared the update...I don't know what they're waiting for & neither do you. The attorneys said they notified the Prosecutor Office Thursday night that the parents left their home Tuesday because of safety concerns, the Prosecutor did the news conference about the charges & didn't even notify the Sheriff's Dept, they found out about it from the media. The authorities could & should have done a better job.
