Re: The Oprah Moments are Everywhere Now!

I don't watch any of those people, they really have no idea how the other half lives and IMO could care less. Why support them when you can't relate to that kind of lifestyle, unless you like to live vicariously through them. You don't have to watch these shows to have an upbeat, positive out look on life.

I feel like I'm a pretty positive person but I didn't need to be self-indulgent to get there.

It has been a long time since the Today Show was really news.  A VERY long time.  But 15 or 20 years ago they had interesting interviews, book news, scientists who were interesting, good travel episodes, informational pieces, etc.

Now it is just a bunch of people laughing and giggling about their own lives--or some pop psychology stuff.  At least the few times I've turned in recently.

People on the show used to be reporters who conducted interviews with others, or reported on interesting topics.   Now seem, at least to me, like they assume we all see them as celebrities and are fascinated with their lives.  Sorry but I don't see Hoda, Jenna, Al, and the weather girl (can't remember her name) as particularly interesting.

And as you go along in the morning lineup it just gets worse.

When the news channels began reporting news 24/7, they all became Morning Shows ....  lighthearted, a little news thrown in for good measure, but mostly topical stuff and the day's weather.  If someone was going to have it on for a half hour, something that might elevate their mood before going off to work.

Personally, what annoys me most are the people standing outside the windows, screaming, waving and trying to get the camera's attention .....  who ever got the idea that we  would want to see THAT ??

What's up with calling Oprah "Opie"? Does she go by that, or is it just a way to demean her?

I used to love daytime TV ,decades ago. It was really a learning curve, for many things. Now it is just a lot of fluff..I haven't watched any of it in years

Since network tv is fast falling in viewers, you'd think maybe they would change programming some.  For the better I mean.

That jumped out at me as well.  It is demeaning.

After the first hour the Today Show is just a long daytime talk show.

It's rude and childish.

I don't ever recall morning shows being 100% hard hitting journalism. Admittedly, when I was young I didn't really watch it, but it was because every time I flipped over I saw them doing cooking or Christmas gift suggestion segments. It seemed to be geared towards housewives.

Re: The Oprah Moments are Everywhere Now!

Im going to assume "Opie" was an errant spell check. The daytime shows need to appeal to a demographic more likely to spend money. There are still stay at ho.e moms and dads and much of the programming will try to appeal to them.
I just put on music or TCM. Otherwise I'll listen to non stop politics and the world is bigger then that. I hope. IXnay on the journaling- i could never be honest enough to write down my deepest darkest thoughts. What if I suddenly died before getting a chance to burn it? The horror. My legacy 🤣😁🤔

It has been used on these forums many times when referring to Oprah Winfrey. SMH
