The New Paperwhite Kindle Reader -- is it brighter (without a strain -- in any case, that's the way it is advertised...), clearer than the old Kindle Keyboard?
What is your experience with the new Kindle Paperwhite reader?
I have an old Kindle keyboard and am thinking of getting the Paperwhite. Clear easy reading is important to me -- have some eye issues.
Thanks for any info or opinions that you can share!

I got one for Christmas -- LOVE IT! It is much better and you don't need a light to read.

I agree! Love it!

I got a Paperwhite for Christmas to replace my no-longer working Kindle Keyboard. I am very, very happy with it. It's a bit smaller than the Keyboard. The very best feature is you don't need a light since the Paperwhite is backlit. You can also adjust the brightness. Wouldn't go back to the Keyboard at this point.

But does the backlight keep you awake at night? I know this has been an issue with backlit devices like tablets - making it harder to fall asleep. I would like one but worry about this.

Supposedly, ANY light can make it harder to fall asleep. So, if one has that type of an issue with sleep, it wouldn't matter if you're reading with a lamp on or if the reader has a backlight. I don't have any problems falling asleep after reading for a bit.

THANK YOU for your replies -- the consensus here seems to be thumbs up. I appreciate your advice.

A definite thumbs-up from me. After my Kindle Keyboard died (my fault - spilled a glass of water on it), I was looking to replace it with another used Keyboard. Couldn't get one at a price point I was willing to pay. I got the Paperwhite for Christmas and would never go back to the Keyboard. Never.
