I heard about my generation being the downfall of the country. Our outrageous music, the way we dressed, drugs, protests, morals, behavior, guys taking off to Canada to avoid Vietnam, and plethora of other things too numerous to mention.
How did this generation turn into something that would be so awful? I saw so many "head shakes" in those days.
I am in contact with lots of children of different ages. They are bright and work to achieve goals. There are problem children now just as there were years ago. Hopefully, they will find their way and be productive citizens just like so many from my generation did.
There is hope!
@Mersha I think your parents were right and the root of many of today's issues was because of the things that changed with my generation.
@Sooner Have to disagree with you on this.
My generation worked for peace, women's and civil rights, protecting the environment, technology, movies, music, ending a war that should have never happened, etc.
I think we did a great job laying positive groundwork for the next generation.

Detection of Generational self-loathing.
Interesting psychological phenomenon.

Kids need leaders/teacher and parents are the first ones. I'm so sorry these kids have not had the right guidance and their generation is in a whole lot of hurt trouble.
Someone needs to rescue the kids. Set limits, teach them they all can't be winners. This way, they're all losers. It had to happen. Set limits. If they break the rules, they're only hurting themselves as well as others, in the long run.
Those who make the rules, need to enforce them to keep the peace.
The kids aren't supposed to be in charge. It's not their turn.

A lot of this is bad parenting. Countless kids learn it at home, hear it at home. Parents want to be friends instead of parents. Many parents are too lazy to parent. Too many parents are more interested in themselves (work, social lives, partners, etc) to parent. and so on.

If I had young children today, I would never allow them to attend public schools, they would be exposed to so many dreadful behaviors.
My kids went to private school K-8 and public school thereafter.
They had much better education and life experiences in public school. They learned how to live in the real world instead of being isolated from real life in private school. It allowed them to learn while still at home where there was guidance before they went to university. I wouldn't change a thing.

I feel sorry of the kids that do want to learn and get an education.
@10sluvr Ok, let's blame everything on the "liberal school boards." Come on...seriously?
yes, we should. you think they are blameless for the mess schools, are in??? they set the tone for the school atmosphere. If there are strict rules and punishments, that are enforced, the kids would respect the teachers and staff more. Obviously, respect isn't being taught, at home. I'm ok with stronger security, to ensure everyone's safety.

Do you have kids? You sound detached from what is happening. Too many soaps, reality tv and Fox. Shut the tv off, maybe.

Absolutely correct!
Once I saw that video of the teenager hurling a chair at the teacher in class in Michigan, knocking her unconscious, I'm surprised there are any teachers willing to subject themselves to that.

Sadly, I give up with these types of topics. People like believing the worst and instead of posting a topic that talks about how much good young people are doing, they choose the worst possible scenarios. It's a pattern here and I feel sorry for the ones that actually seem to enjoy hearing about the small minority of kids that act out @Lakelife62 . 🙄
