I can't imagine working for or with him. I wonder what goes on behind the scenes.

@SilleeMee    I understand Dr. Pol has been censured a number of times by the state veterinary board for his unsanitary or unsafe practices.  I've seen him do things I really question.

I also question his wisdom in sending a heavily pregnant young doctor out to wrestle a cow that was giving birth.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a) any medical type who's been in business for about 50 years  as Dr. Pol has been, is going to make a few mistakes and get his hand slapped. I did a little investigating and that's pretty much what it amounts to.

And yes I also was surprised that a very pregnant Dr. Emilie helping a cow with a difficult birth. I don't know if she did it voluntarily or if she felt a little pressured. I hope Dr. Pol has plenty of insurance for that kind of situation.

As far as him being "brutal"--what's he going to say to a 1000-lb. bull that doesn't want to be castrated? "Oh please please cooperate" No sometimes he has to manhandle those huge and sometimes angry or out-of-control animals. The only thing that bothers me is that is that it looks to me like he and some of the other vets aren't gloved up when they should be.

But we don't see everything so, it's possible they're on the straight and narrow and the audience doesn't see it.

I've been watching this show from the beginning and do not interpret what I see and hear on this show in the same way as many of you.

Dr Pol started life in the Netherlands, but by my country ways and standards, he is a no frills, no nonsense, git er done, redneck.   He has a strong, tight bond with his wife and children, but the man runs wide open all the time and is not what I'd call sensitive or attentive.  Personally, I get it; I was raised by farmers with the same work ethic as Dr
Pol, and if Grandpa or Dad yelled at me for not carrying my end of the load with farm chores, I knew those words were based on what I was not doing well at that time, and did not mean anything beyond that.

In my eyes and by my standards, Charles Pol is one LAZY *** human being!   He whines like a baby when he's injured and sick.  OMG, I'd like to have $1 for every time I've yelled at him on TV and told him to grow a pair and move on!   I feel sure Dr Pol has said as much to Charles and likely far more.   Charles Pol is lying to himself if he thinks he's a tough, hard working man like his father.

As for a very pregnant Dr Emily doing farm calls, she knew what she was getting into with her career choice, and with 2 of her children born while she worked for Pol Vet, there seemed to be very few episodes with her not pregnant!

wow, that was HARSH.

Are you serious? Charles invented that show and is the executive producer so in addition to his producer duties, he also helps his dad in his practice. It looks to me like Charles is a great guy, helps the old man out (and gets a lot of guff and snide remarks in thanks), and is a good husband and father.

I've watched many of the shows and I didn't view Dr. Pol's comments to Charles as any more than good-natured ribbing that goes on between family members. What particularly brutal comments have you seen from Dr. P?

@GoneButNotForgotten

You're right, Charles was the one with the bright idea for the show.  His talent is strong, and is based in the TV production industry, which I feel he excelled in.  He is not a farmer, and has taken his lumps learning to be a second set of hands on farm calls with his dad.

@Kachina624 I too have watched every episode and most of the repeats. It's my opinion that Dr. Emily could have refused to take the call due to her pregnancy. She was there 5 years and I doubt was forced to go on that call.

I love Charles. As you said, he created this show and I also feel Dr. Pol is snotty to him sometimes. He should thank his lucky stars to have such a kind, creative and hard working son.

Once in awhile I wish Charles would tell Pol to shove it when Pol says something snarky to him.

@Love my grandkids    Charles is obedient and respectful to a fault.  If Charles wasn't there to help, there would be no Dr. Pol show.

@Kachina624 Yes. To a fault. I love Charles.  I just wish he'd stick up for himself sometimes. Of course not everything is shown, lots edited out, so maybe he does!

I watched a few episodes of Dr. Pol.  I could not put my finger on it, but something about him gave me the creeps.

He certainly did not have a kind bedside manner to the animals that I saw, and also treated his missed analysis of ailments & treatments to "oh well, it was this instead."  I felt he put himself on a pedestal.  Sorry, I don't mean to offend any of those that like him.  I just did not.

I've noticed the remarks to Charles, but Charles does not seem to mind.  I would think that after a while it would get old, the digs.  But maybe it's part of the "story."  I got very tired of watching Dr. Pol and switched to another vet show, Heartland DOCS, DVM.  There are several others on TV now in addition to the fictionalized shows like All Creatures and others.
