East Coast Canada here 👋 to East Coast US. Our snow arrives Sunday night into Monday. We are supposed to get a foot. I always have the freezer well stocked in winter as we are a 15 minute drive from groceries. Got my outdoor Christmas lights down so we are good to go.
Looking forward to a good storm!!!

People will act like they be stranded until spring. It's not a Donner party situation for Pete's sake.
What is about a little snow that freaks people out?
A blizzard with feet of snow, yes, get prepared, but 4 inches, no.
DD will not go near a store Friday, she said it is nuts.
People stock up ... or at least they used to.
BTW ..... What's a Donner party situation?
"The Donner Party, sometimes called the Donner–Reed Party, were a group of American pioneers who migrated to California in a wagon train from the Midwest. Delayed by a multitude of mishaps, they spent the winter of 1846–1847 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Some of the migrants resorted to cannibalism to survive, primarily eating the bodies of those who had succumbed to starvation, sickness or extreme cold, but in one case two Native American guides were deliberately killed for this purpose.[1]"

This is the worst week of the month to go to the grocery store in this area of WV; right after Christmas and New Years, many older retirees are out for their monthly shopping trip, along with those panic shopping due to the weather forecast, plus sick people who caught something from family during the holiday but feel they must get to the store.
Easy pass for me! I have an appt on the 11th and will wait until then. Some of the "fresh" food in the stores right now has been in the stockroom since before Christmas. My trucker daughter has had a long break due to warehouses being on a holiday schedule; her trucking company is just now getting food and supply orders that put truckers back on the road.

I am reminded of the hoarding during the pandemic. At one point the butcher section of my local supermarket was empty. People bought all of the meat. I still don't know how people were able to store all the stuff they bought.

Most of my cars were muscle cars so that was fun. lol
I put studded snow tires on my Corvette and that thing was like a little tank--it would plow through even deep snow. No calling in to work because of snowstorms in those days for me.
That's so funny because I had 3 vettes in the 70's and 1 in the 80's. I never used snow tires but lots of sand in the backend & never missed a day of work either. lol
I eventually bought a little beater truck to use so I had both options.
Now I drive a huge 4x4 truck.
I wish I didn't have a script to pick up tomorrow. Even with a 4x4 people don't know how to drive.

I'll be surprised if we get more than an inch or so here in central pa. Honestly, I'd like to see snow and would love if the ground would freeze for a few days cuz I'm sick of all the mud! Everywhere I go I'm slipping and sliding in boot-sucking mud!
But, yes, if that's the worst thing I have to deal with I guess I'm pretty lucky. 😊

The grocery store was crazy the day after New Years..People must have gotten their monthly pension money..I just went to pick up my normal weekly stuff and our meds.
When we lived in the city..2 inches and everyone was in a panic.
Here in mountains in upstate NY..I try to stock up on all but perishables in Nov...DH won't drive if it's snowy and I'm no longer allowed to drive..We don't make any appointments for the winter. It could be icy rain in town and snow up here.
Right now the weather guy was saying anywhere from 2-18 inches..what kind of forecast is that?
My snow plow guy knows anything over 4 inches..he does the 200ft. driveway..My oil company made a delivery Wed. they hate my driveway...Mail person doesn't come up the driveway if there is a light coating of white.
When ever we have a lot of snow we always have to replace our mailbox..the road plow must aim at mine.Once ours was in the ditch 2 houses down...LOL
Be safe and warm everyone!

Insane trip to our local Costco. However as crowded as it was and how long the lines were the cashiers were speedy. Every register was open. No real wait and the usual kind wonderful service.
I think we might get snowstorm Saturday but not all that sure because the weather models keep moving the storm more north.
I live in northern central Maryland.

@NEvans2 wrote:I know! This really cracks me up. I live in Western PA. About 8 miles south of Pittsburgh. The snow we get now is nothing like snow we got when I was a kid. And I don't remember ever having a snow day! We had no busing when I was in school. You bundled up, Mom put newspaper in your boots and you walked to school. That's just how it was. No rides from parents because most families only had one car and Dad took it to work. And this was the late 1960's thru 1973. I think it toughened us up and taught us to handle adversity.
@NEvans2 I also lived in western Pa. (Beaver Pa. ) when I was a kid. We walked to school everyday...no busses. Dad took the car to work...most mom's stayed home. All the moms watched out for kids as we walked 3 blocks to school. ...so we always felt safe. I don't remember newspaper in our boots 😊 but we just bundled up and were on our way... I also don't remember ever having a snow day. Times sure were different.
