Noel7, It is probably from intense coughing, every time a person sneezes, or coughs or hiccups, your heart stop for a few seconds. I don't think age has much to do with how it affects your heart unless it's weak to begin with .

Noel7, I wish the news would stop scaring people to death. So sick of it !!I am really trying to enjoy life the best we can in this crazy world. How about some good news, like people survive illness and move on to live normal happy lives .

Hi @BeccaLou
I’ve always believed knowledge is power. Probably most of us did not know that having this season’s flu could put us at a higher risk for a heart attack. Knowing that risk could make people more aware and perhaps save their life if they got a chest pain several days after having the flu. It could prompt them to call an ambulance rather than ignoring it like many people do.
This news doesn’t scare me, imo it empowers us.

@Noel7@Stray@SilleeMee@Trinity11
Thank you so much for providing up-to-date info pertaining to the flu strains.
Back in October, I had my shots. This was the first time for me for the stronger shot. (higher antigen)
My reaction on the pneumovax arm was dreadful... striated red rash and swelling/excruciating pain. The rxn occurred about 24 hours after and included a 103 fever and 27,000 wbc.
Add in Levaquin and what seems to be a nasty case of tendonitis and I’m just peachy. 😘
It is a mystery to my doctor and to me, what all of this is.😱

(thread title)
2 heart attacks here. #1 included Aspiration Pneumonia along with it.
It would do everyone more good to read all the Major Risk Factors for Heart Disease, and to do a personal inventory on how many of them include them. Working every single 1 of them that can be changed, for the better, would be be more valuable to them than concerning themselves with the latest media news on what increases their chances of having a heart attack.
If one chooses hearing and/or reading the media as a preference to their personal risks? Much of what hits the latest media is nothing new. Much of it falls in the category of "knowing your own risk factors", then pursuing using them, along with common sense, to make it less likely that they will suffer a heart attack.
Any and everything that lowers ones body's resistance can be a risk to many types of diseases, some not related to the heart. If their age falls in the higher numbers, what they have done to protect their body in previous years and decades, is a big factor. Changing something today, while still the smart thing to do, will have a minimal effect in comparison to what they have done in most of their "years gone by".
Concern yourself about your risks? Of course, as long as it is no more than just a "concern". Worrying about the possibility of getting the flu, thus having a heart attack? That is what I call "counterproductive", as worry itself, depending on the degree, may add to their risks factors.
Taking every media announcement too serious I have never known to be beneficial to very many people. Knowing and changing as many of the Heart Related Major Risk Factors as possible would be time much more well spent.
Personal update for those interested:
Hernia surgery recovery going as planned, no setbacks. Feeling better everyday and doing my daily routines that do do require be to exert my abdominal area more than my limited 15lb of any type pressure be it lifting, or pushing and pulling. See surgeon next Thursday any hoping to get the green light to go back to my ice skating once again.

John, this is not fake news or a media fear story. This is known medical fact and hospitals and cardiologists are already taking precautions.
The CDC is involved in tracking the connection of flu with follow up heart attacks, and hospitals are already taking a preemptive approach.
Trinity and I have already been through it in the hospital with Type B flu where our hearts were monitored and we were given Heparin daily as a precaution.

Hi @LTT1
There are five blue zones in the world, areas where people are incredibly healthy and many live to be more than 100 years old and are still working. It's thought to be part lifestyle, part diet.
The Mediterranean diet is a large part of it for Sardinia, one of the main Blue Zones. They eat mostly fruit and veg, lentils, beans, etc. with some dairy, meat and fish.
There are cookbooks online for the Mediterranean diet and a VERY HELPFUL pyramid chart showing the best foods to eat, how much and how often

There are 3 or 4 strains of flu now all floating around. They say this is the worst season for flu in about 15 years
I also heard that Drs. are all very worried about another pandemic, saying there is really nothing that can stop it, because of the way people travel, now
They are trying to find a universal flu shot. I read some claims that they have one, but I really doubt it.
