I dived in head first in 1982 and made a desktop work for the office.  I think I had memorized the DOS book and wow 2.0 was heaven and fun but frustrating.

 

I did not intend to go into IT but got in with both feet!  Funny how that happens isn't it?  Woman Very HappyWoman Frustrated

That's exactly what happened with a woman who was my husband's office assistant at the university. She learned bit by bit as part of her job there, and finally was became so proficient that she was hired by a hospital to be in charge of their entire computer system. Of course that was back in the early days when there was no requirement for a degree in computer science, just knowledge and ability.
