There is something seriously messed up...
When people care more about fast food franchisees (people who are doing well, on average) than they care about the worker - making $7.50 an hour, no insurance, no sick or vacation pay and not even set hours from week to week.
Not everybody can come up with $500,000 to become an owner.
There are MANY more worker bees than owners in this world....and without the worker bees, the owners would have nothing either....no one to flip the burgers and no one to afford buying his burgers.

I often wonder when people say that you should just own your own business who they think is going to do the work for you.

Why do you continue to put down individuals who are running small businesses across the country. If you do not make enough money flipping a burger then do something about it. Improve yourself. The previous poster stated for a FACT that fast food franchises are not the gold mind you continue to state they are. When you run one of these places you can have complete control of how things are done, till then it is not your skin in the game.

Good point about health benefits. None of her employees have them unless they purchase them on their own. Fortunately, the ACA offers a way for low income employees to have health care insurance. We are self-employed as well. Until the ACA came into being, we were paying almost $2,500.00 per month with the last increase. Had it not been for the ACA, we would have been forced to drop our coverage, or greatly reduce the quality of our coverage for about $500.00 less cost per month. Not being attached to a large group was crippled our ability to obtain coverage for a fair price.

Those business pay their employees based on the business plan they have, not what some think they should be paying them.

It'll be okay. In the not too distant future, customers will order from a terminal and robots will be flipping those burgers, which will be delivered by conveyor belt, and the worker bees will no longer have to worry about demanding raises.
Your order will probably be correct, but if it isn't... you can just pick up the red courtesy phone, navigate through the menu of complaints, none of which match your problem, wait on hold for 47 minutes, and Billy in India will attempt to straighten it out for you.

And so the employers end up hiring immigrants and then people get mad at them for doing that, saying they are denying jobs to American workers. Believe me , if they could find Americans they would be happy to hire them.
