BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A brood of 17-year cicadas is set to emerge this spring, affecting a small sliver of far western Maryland but mostly Ohio and West Virginia, according to CicadaMania.com.

This is not the brood that affects Maryland most directly, however. That is “Brood X,” which last emerged in 2004 and will re-emerge in 2021.

Thanks for posting this.  I live in central Maryland and I knew it hadn't been 17 years since the last onslaught.  We have woods behind our house, and I remember the noise was deafening.  I was ready to leave town, lol.  Maybe I need to plan a cruise for the spring of 2021.

I remember this because I was not yet pregnant when they hit; the sound was over the top! Parts of MD have different types of cicade's; one is out every year (we hear them every summer). No clue what they look like but Brood X are BIG and LOUD and BLIND so they fly into you and everything else trying to hit a branch or something to cling to, lol.

As a kid, we thought they were amazing and nifty. As an adult; not so much and yet, the sound they make is kinda soothing- I guess because I remember it from fun summer : )

I'm amazed that all of these states surround NJ and yet they are not coming here!!

Re: The Cicadas Are Coming.....

I read the below about a year ago and it scared me to death.  I envisioned what it would be like if the plant life and the Cicadas ever got together to seek revenge on us humans.  It was good.
