The whole idea of divorcing to help with estate planning is flawed and it's not advice that's given nowadays by experienced financial planners and attorneys. There was a time it was done by some but they learned that it didn't work out for most and you're actually at risk of being charged with fraud.
I think she's just had enough. This is from their website:
everything relating to THE CAPTAIN & TENNILLE appeared to the public as them being the ideal model for a "rock-solid' married pair. But almost all people naturally evolve over time, & sometimes hidden feelings start to be uncovered....

ITA. And no one except the two people in a relationship are the only ones that really know what is going on between the two people in that relationship.

Sad, but then you never know what happened over the years.
I remember Patricia Neal and Lynn Redgrave were both in the situation where younger women brought into the household stole their husband, and if a couple gets to the point where they look at the other person and roll their eyes, it may be time to call it a day.
You just never know.

LOL! I thought that too Ford. She is 73 and the Cptn is like 71... why not just keep a marriage of "convenience"? Oh well, their lives...they must have a reason after nearly 40 years together. I'll always love their music.
I agree, why bother. Oh well, guess the marriage ran it's course. I only like one song they did but don't have anything against them or their music.

Oh, c'mon, you have never once rolled your eyes at your DH?
Behind every great man, there's a woman, rolling her eyes.

I thought the same thing, at their ages why bother? Geesh they must have love for each other, they spent all those years together!) I don't know, unless theres a major problem then I can see it, otherwise people give up and don't work on their relationships anymore!

Well even if even she doesn't love him anymore- after 40 years of marriage I think its pretty krappy of her to bail on him if he is that sick -so she can start her new life at 70 something
if it were the other way around he would villanized for leaving poor sick Toni after all these years -
