It makes me feel better knowing that if I am in an accident, I'll have evidence of exactly what happened, whether I am at fault or not.
It's like having another eyewitness to document what happened.
Don't they usually only show what is going on directly in front of you? There can be other factors that are not recorded. Accident investigators are very good at recreating situations to determine what happened.

@CareBears such a sad story. What makes me angry is the signs and promotions all around my area reminding others to be careful of motorcycles. However, it goes both ways. I've seen some horrible bike riding.

You are confused. No where did I say it would make me a better driver.

Then why are you getting a dash cam? Your whole post was about how bad your drive is everyday, then you going to get a dash cam. So why a dash cam?

One of my biggest irritations on the road is the dare-devilish behavior of some motorcyclists. We have a lot of local riders, and for the most part they drive safely, but we also have a younger group on crotch-rockets that weave in and out of traffic at warp speed. 4 deaths have occurred locally in less than 8 weeks due to speed and inexperience.

Exactly. Because the only way you can prove anything these days is actual proof.

@CrazyDaisy It's not going to make your drive better. But it can be used as evidence if someone causes an accident, or if they are driving recklessly and you want to report them.

I think I stated my reasoning pretty clearly.

That's what this guy was driving. And one of his lights on the front was out.

True, accident investigators are good at figuring out what happened, but I see that having a dash cam is just one more tool to help in that investigation.
Also, they can help in minor accidents, too.
One would download the video, and email it to the insurance company, because the police don't send out an accident investigator for every accident.
Heck, for that matter, the police don't even show up for every fender bender.
Also, what if I am in an accident and I can't remember what happened?
Then the video would be another added tool in determining what happened, and who was at fault, me, or the other party.
