It makes me feel better knowing that if I am in an accident, I'll have evidence of exactly what happened, whether I am at fault or not.
It's like having another eyewitness to document what happened.
Don't they usually only show what is going on directly in front of you? There can be other factors that are not recorded. Accident investigators are very good at recreating situations to determine what happened.
True, accident investigators are good at figuring out what happened, but I see that having a dash cam is just one more tool to help in that investigation.
Also, they can help in minor accidents, too.
One would download the video, and email it to the insurance company, because the police don't send out an accident investigator for every accident.
Heck, for that matter, the police don't even show up for every fender bender.
Also, what if I am in an accident and I can't remember what happened?
Then the video would be another added tool in determining what happened, and who was at fault, me, or the other party.
Thank you for a civil answer.
So few accidents occur in front of you (unless you hit something). The dash cam is not recording your speed, if you are distracted, if a light changed, construction workers instructions, etc.. There just seems to be so much that is not captured that it is not worth the time of money for something that might happen in a very small area.
My dash cam has a time-date stamp, ability to record audio, 90° view, my speed, works at night.

Nothing improves one's driving but the driver, and long time experiences help. Camera's are used to record exactly who did what/when/how, and why. It will show who was in the wrong when a meeting of vehicles go "boom".
They also can be used to monitor your vehicle when you are not in it, both inside it or outside of it. With some on the market you can so both simultaneously.
That is the purposes of a camera for most, but they also can be portable and many take very good "still pictures". Where you got the idea that @makena said it would improve her driving!
Does this help unconfuse you?

WOW, a little nasty today. Never said her driving, I said her drive.
Her whole post was about her miserable drive to work. Perhaps you could reread and apologize.
I did, and I sure can. I am sorry I misread your post. Will add this. If you see this as me being nasty, ho boy! Nothing on this BB can be said to cause me to be nasty to any contributor, very few things in my real life.
Sorry you saw my comment as such, I made a mistake and will try harder not to read something that is not said.

This morning someone took a left turn right smack in front of me while making my right turn, and right turn has the ROW. He didn't even have his blinker on. He came so fast and tried to beat me making my turn.
Can someone unpack this one for me?
If CarA goes left, and CarB goes right...wouldn't they be going in opposite directions? What type of road scenario would have the left crossing in front of the right?

The one that I have is similar to the Z-Edge Z3 3-Inch 2K Ultra Full HD 1296x1080 Car Dash Cam with 32GB Card and Parking Monitor on Amazon, for $99.99.
It has over 1,000 reviews, and has a 4+ star rating.

I haven't read all of the posts. Dash Cams are a good idea, especially now-a-days. Also, one would think that if someone (pedestrian) has not-so-nice ulterior motives, it would be handy to ward off bad behavior. In other words, if a potentially bad person/assaulter/attacker sees the dash cam, he might just turn around and go somewhere else.

p.s. Many, many, many years ago, I was sitting in my car, waiting for a store to open. Not paying much attention, tidying my car, organizing 'this and that'. Well, I began to notice that a man was pacing back and forth, back and forth about ten feet away from me. With a very mean look on his face. 'Low and behold' a police car drove into the parking lot, and the man actually ran out of the parking lot. So, looking back (and I often do), could be that he had bad intentions toward me. I guess my lucky stars were perfectly lined up that morning.

Not sure of this, but will give it a shot. I read it as Car A(the OP) as driving, say South, and Car B going North.
She, Car A is signaling to make a right turn and Car B, is driving South, making a Left Turn, and trying to beat her to the same turn roadway.
There are few of these types of things in my regular drive from home to gain access to an Interstate Highway a few miles from our home.
I am heading south and turning right to get onto the entrance ramp to the Interstate. There is a Left Turn lane for the cars going North, they too want to access the same entrance ramp. If I have my right turn signal on too soon? That car turning Left cuts right in front of me to get onto that entrance ramp.
I have the Right-of-way because the Left Turning vehicles has to yield to "oncoming traffic". What if I was going straight? I now turn my signal on closer to the entrance ramp if I see some turning left to get onto the ramp.
I think only @makena can answer that question precisely.

People do drive crazy. Last time we went to Fl I had anxiety attack in the car on the way there & the way back. I don't know why I was freaking out so much. We have been driving to Fl for years with no problems. It happened in Birmingham, Al. Those people drive like they are on a death wish. We were driving the speed limit & everyone was flying past us. They are talking on the phone, texting & changing lanes back & forth. We were in the fast lane & they wanted us to move to the slow lane. LOL!!! That's not happening when we are doing the speed limit & need to exit from the fast lane. If we got in the slow lane we would never be able to get in the fast lane to make our exit.
