Thanksgiving food items may be in short supply!

I heard on the news last night that Thanksgiving turkeys and other side dishes such as pumpkin, cranberry sauce, potatoes, green beans, etc. may be in short supply.  Some big supermarket chains had to order their turkeys back in February.  Also, supermarkets usually receive 90% of items ordered.  Now it may only be 40%.  There is a shortage of drivers and the whole supply chain is affected.  I just hope the turkeys come in!

That's OK because years ago turkeys were eaten at Thanksgiving and no other time...

Now, you can buy a frozen turkey and even fresh turkeys year round.

I must make either a turkey breast or whole turkey at least 5 times a year other than Tnanksgiving and by the time Thanksgiving comes along, I think, really, I'm sort of sick of it by then.

I tend to get my turkey and Thanksgiving pies from local farmers and a farm market rather than the supermarket.  I should probably start stocking up on cranberries and other sides that we like.

One news report on TV said popular sizes would be in short supply. 16 to 20 pounders. But smaller and larger might not be. How do they even know this? I like turkey for Thanksgiving but would buy something else if necessary. QVC hosts are saying supply chain will make Xmas shoopping hard. So far, my two faves grocery stores have no empty shelves. I have noticed discount stores like Ross and TJMaxx do have less inventory than normal.

I heard that too.  I've already started looking for a turkey.  We prefer a turkey breast and they are always harder to find so I just home I get one.

People don't have to eat only turkey at Thanksgiving. It's all tradition; maybe try something else for a change. Thanksgiving is more than what food to have.

Last year we had a Butterball and it was the worst bird ever. Soggy, tasteless and mushy. Jenny O are usually gigantic. I like Norbest turkeys and if I can't get one of those it will be home made stew, filet on the grill or lasagna. It's just the two of us so it doesn't matter.

Is this a new thread or has this one been shortened?

I could swear I was posting about cranberries with another poster and the posts are missing.

I know we were discussing Thanksgiving shortages the other day.

I have heard that, also.

Funny thing is, we generally do not have turkey anyway.  It could be lasagna, or stroganoff, or even gourmet tuna casserole.

For that moment, on that day, we take a pause and say a blessing.  I love it!  For me, (and I know this is not true for many others), it also signifies the beginning of the next holiday season.  I love that one, too.

We will miss a good friend who was always with us on the November holiday.  He passed before vaccinations were available.
