The marriage of the Winter Olympics and the X- Games; some consider it a good thing while others do not.
I watched most events in real time on NBCSN or online and enjoyed only what I wanted to see.

Not everybody has that capability, lulu. Also, personally I don't feel like chasing the event all over several television stations and internet connections.
Sign of old age I guess.

They used to show this ""gala"" earlier in the day on the last day of the winter olympics. Why they would think it would be a primetime draw when actual good TV is on was poor planning on NBC's part.

I was very much annoyed by the way they handled the "Gala." I remember back a few winter Olympics where they presented the gala much earlier in the day, and only broke it up a bit but I think that's back when ABC had it. This works for no one. I, too, was all set to watch my favorite skaters and got to see Gracie Gold and one other, then later on Meryl & Charlie and the Canadian and French couples. Everyone was great -- but by then it was after midnight and I couldn't stay awake any longer - something called work the next day. Let's hope they hear enough complaints and change things up next time around.

She's not in the winter paralympic games and they were not mentioned. She gold medaled in the 2012 summer games and will be in Rio in 2016.
She is also going to be a "featured commentator" during the Paralympic games coming up in Sochi next week.
I enjoyed her story from a human interest angle but it wouldn't move me to watch her on the paralympic games.
As for the skating gala, there was plenty of skating for days during the games. Why do they need this "gala"? The skiers don't get to ski again for us, do they?

The gala is more of an entertainment show. The skaters are free to do whatever they want to. I think it was during this we saw Scott Hamilton do his famous flip after he'd already won the gold medal in competition. He'd never have gotten away with that during competition. It's fun to watch them skate to contemporary music and songs and really "let loose"! The routines are similar to what you would see at a "Stars on Ice" show. I stayed up and watched it all. Had they combined it into one show, it would have been fun to watch for a lot of people. And I'm disappointed a lot of younger kids or teens who are skaters could not stay up to see this!

The skaters all seem to do much better during the gala than in competition. I suppose that's natural because they're not being judged.

I don't believe I said she was in the games.

I waited for the skating exhibition, too, and then turned it off. Too many commercials, too much talking, sporadic coverage. I would like to see ESPN do the coverage next time. NBC is getting old, and who wants to see Matt Lauer at the Olympics? I don't like any of the Today show people, and Bob Costas could be replaced, too. I saw a lot of curling coverage that I totally wasn't interested in, either. I wish we could just watch the athletes without the commentators putting words in their mouths, or trying to tell us what they are thinking.
