Thanks for the Ice Skating Gala program you promoted, NBC

I raced home last night to settle down and watch the coverage WHICH was supposed to start at 8 p.m. NBC promoted it this way, and so did our local station. I saw skiing - OK, I understand they're keeping the gala coverage until later. So I got out my books and folders and did some work with the TV on mute. Around 9 Terry, Tara, and Johnny appeared. I put my things away, poured a drink, and settled on the couch to watch. I think we saw Gracie Gold and Meryl and Charlie, then THEY WENT BACK TO ANOTHER SPORT!! They used the Gala coverage as FILLER interspersed with other sports until shortly after 1:00 a.m. and after local news coverage and the premier of About a Boy - which I'll admit was cute. But I was not happy!

It is not a competition. It is a PROGRAM, and it should have been presented this way. A family with young children couldn't relax and watch this in its entirety. I think they've done this before, but not quite to this extent - about 2 skaters at a time.

I enjoyed all of the skaters, especially the French ice dancing couple's performance to "(I've Had) The Time of my Life" from Dirty Dancing, and Tessa and Scott's (Canadian ice dancer silver medalists) rendition of Rihanna's "Stay" - that was really something.

SO - GREAT JOB , NBC! Should I be surprised??? {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I thought it was bad programing with the ice skating always coming late and this is what most families wanted to see on primetime.

Agreed! I watched until 10pm (central time) then went to bed. I didn't want to stay up later and didn't have enough room on the DVR to record it, so they lost me in the ratings. Figure skating is a BIG draw and the gala (used to be called the exhibition) should have fully been in prime time.

And what was with that program about the Russian Swimmer. It was a very very interesting story but what was it doing in that time slot when we were still wanting to watch the winter games It lasted about half an hour.

I enjoyed it as I do most of the events. It was on from 7-10 here. The swimmer was on to promote the Olympics I believe start March 7. I enjoyed her story.

I enjoyed it as well. Just would have rather seen the ice skating in the time slot they used for it. Or if not the ice skating any of the other sports since I wasn't able to see much yesterday.

Did USA win anything? If not, that's why it was preempted.

NBC $ucks at their weak attempt of Olympic programming. They get worse each year.

I'd have appreciated it had they shown the gala from start to finish. There was no reason, other than to try to ensure ratings, to splice and dice it as they did. Personally, I got fed up and found something else to watch. Would like to think for this one performance (not competition) NBC could have done the right thing by their audience and presented it as it was intended to be viewed. Frankly, I'd like to see what another network could do with the games. NBC's had them long enough.
