Re: Thank you mods!

[ Edited ]

For those not happy and complaining about any board, the option of creating your own is readily available.

Set it up however you please and only list your preferred forums.  You could be the moderator or have no moderation at all.  You control all aspects as you see fit.

Problem solved.

Being a moderator is a thankless job for the most part, especially when you're a mod on a board you also participate on.

Did you mean "without rhyme or reason"?  Never heard "without rhythm or reason" as a phrase.

@Venezia

Yes it is a phrase and has been around for years. My grandmother used it.  Although, it should be nor reason not or reason.

@occasionalrain - I know the common phrase "without rhyme nor reason".

I have never heard "without rhythm nor reason".

What has rhythm got to do with anything in this instance?

Methinks, @They Call Me MR Wilkes misspoke.

Your points are well taken @Oznell but I disagree that the mods should have to weed out offending posts when they pile up exponentially throughout a thread. Not to mention that political and controversial topics are started by well-seasoned posters who know exactly how it will end but the op just wants a chance to get their opinion out there before someone points out it goes against the standards for posting. And then it seems we have those who simply want to post, run, and wait to see the mayhem that follows. Sad, but true.

I agree it can't be easy being a moderator, or at the very least it has to be incredibly frustrating trying to babysit a group of elderly women who don't want to abide by the rules they voluntarily agreed to when joining the the forum.

I do agree wholeheartedly with your last paragraph, but as someone who's been posting here for many, many years I can assure you that will never happen.

So again, thank you to our wonderful moderators for doing an amazing job!!! Smiley HappyHeart

But that's just it! It's their job! They should be doing it and they are. I don't always agree with what they do-sometimes I think it's a personal thing with the mod when they take down a post because there's no unearthly reason why they should.

Most jobs done well are not easy. We have all worked with people, even volunteers, who haven't a care to do a good job.

I think you are perhaps thinking of rhythm in a narrow sense.

rhythm
rĭᴛʜ′əm
noun

Movement or variation characterized by the regular recurrence or alternation of different quantities or conditions.

The patterned, recurring alternations of contrasting elements of sound or speech.

The patterning of musical sound, as by differences in the timing, duration, or stress of consecutive notes.

The eyes through which you see others may be the same as how they see you.

Re: Thank you mods!

I've never worked in Customer Service positions, but some of my friends have---and it can be very stressful sometimes.  Few people have the poise to stay professional and polite (I don't think I could).

One story from a friend who worked at a Call Center for a group of hospitals--essential work in helping patients reach doctors---though the operators were largely invisible, as they worked at night.

There were lighter stories I'd hear, though, as well. One night, she got a call from a man whose dog was sick, and he wanted to take her to the nearest hospital ER.  My friend told him (gently, she is a dog person, too) the number of the the closest emergency vet near the caller.  He didn't get angry, but he wanted to debate this:  "Look, this is unfair: my dog is a mammal, I'm a mammal, you're a mammal.  We're all mammals." She did finally get him to agree to call the vet hospital.

On the QVC reps, one was really helpful to me recently (not on any matter discussed on the Boards lately, just about QVC).

@Marp - Nope!  I think he simply quoted it wrong.  Even the definitions you gave have nothing (IMO) to do with the actions of the moderators.
