Thank you for your reply about my son's stimulus check.

I hope it works out as well for him as it did for your family.

He couldn't file electronically because as far as the IRS knows he didn't file in 2019 so he had to  mail in his taxes.

By the way he did file in 2019 and they cashed his payment check right away but they don't seem to know that.

@azgal -

The same thing happened to my mother!

The IRS cashed her check but they said they never got it and she had to send a copy of the cashed check for proof in order to clear her account.

So after sending a picture of the front and back (they had to have the back too!), they "accepted" that as payment.

This was for 2019 too!

The IRS must have been a mess like everything else in 2020 and giving people til July to file etc etc.

But isn't this creepy?! I hope this didn't happen to lots of people and they thought they should send another check!

In January he sent a certified copy of his return and a copy of the cancelled check but apparently they haven't done anything with it because he couldn't file electronically because you have to match AGI from last year to file that way and it was rejected.

It's frustrating. I'm sure it was for your mom too.

Maybe they are short staffed because of Covid.
