I'd strongly consider finding a different exterminator, and one who knows how to deal with termites. Normally, an inspection of the premises would be done by the exterminator to find out exactly where the termites are and where they gained entry. They are then treated, and not with traps from what I remember. It really does sound like someone dropped the ball early on with your home purchase.
