Re: Tell me about your Subaru

I'm on my 2nd one, & I'll never buy anything else. Had a Forester, loved it but it was stick shift, I wanted automatic as I'm almost 70. Got a 2013 Impreza & it's great too. Really did great in all the snow & mess we had last winter, even thru unplowed roads. They are all "all-wheel" drive, and I can't say enough good things about Subaru. Don't think you'll be disappointed if you get one.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

Absolutely loved mine! I had 2 significant accidents in it, and it was repaired good as new both times. One was a head-on with someone going about 40mph, and I walked away from it. The only reason we didn't buy a new one recently is that our local dealer is a real pill, and the next nearest is too far away. We went with a Ford Escape, which is also an excellent car, and we love it.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

I have a 2013 Impreza as well. It feels much safer than the 20 yr old Toyota Corolla I turned it in for. The gas mileage is better than I had expected, as the 4-wheel drive cuts the mileage a bit. But for how I drive, mostly local short trips, I don't see any difference between the Impreza and the Corolla. It's not a way of driving that optimizes mileage.

The all wheel drive or maybe the stability control mean there is a hesitation when you first touch the gas pedal, but I got used to that fast. The ride is incredibly smooth and comfortable.

I think the paint and finishes aren't quite as good as Toyota cars I have had. But they are good enough. My car is absolutely basic, as few bells and whistles as I could find. And it looks like what it is: reliable and (for a small car) safe transport.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

I've had Toyota, Honda and Nissan and also Chevy. I now own 2003 Forrester with 190k, loaded. Purchased new, great car. If I can run it to 300k I will. If you go w/Forrester or WRX - buy 2013 or later. There is an engine leak issue in the pre -2013s; mine happened at 175k miles.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

Mine looked like this:

I had a 1999 Outback and it was supposed to outlive me. Unfortunately, I was driving home from work one morning and I slammed on my brakes because every car ahead of me had stopped -- but the idiot who was probably texting in the truck behind me did not.

To this day I can't believe I wasn't injured or didn't fly into other lanes and injure others. The only thing that died that day was my car. He hit it so hard that the impact bent the frame.

It hurts every time I see a similar car on the road. It was still in great shape, had low mileage, a moon roof, and dark gray leather interior -- a perfect dog car.

But I didn't buy another Subaru. I was finishing nursing school, working part-time, and living on my savings so I wanted something smaller, less expensive, and more fuel efficient. Ended up with a Honda Fit.

I do like Subarus and I recommend them. But do your research and factor in the cost of owning an all-wheel drive vehicle. Maintenance, gas... add it up and see if it's an affordable option for you.

I do give my Outback kudos for safety. An accident like that in a lesser car might have been really ugly.

I still miss that car, but I never want to be that attached to a vehicle. Not in a place where the residents don't know how to drive.

We like our Outback and are thinking about replacing our second car with a Forester.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

Actually my son is looking at the Subaru WRX Limited. We took it for a test drive last weekend. Very nice car. Nice features, roomy backseat and my son can actually fit in the car! He's 6'2" and the biggest problem finding a car is the size for him. I certainly would consider it if I were in the market to buy a car. As it is I bought the Mazda CX5 in December 2012. I love my CX5 but I certainly would consider the WRX if I were purchasing a car rather than an SUV.

We have have/had 5. One saved our lives in a head on collision.

The mileage has greatly improved with the newer models. Love them.

Re: Tell me about your Subaru

I love my Subaru. I would never have any other car. And it's funny, because in the early nineties, my boyfriend had a tiny Subaru hatchback that I absolutely hated!

But they've come a long way....

I currently have a,2013 Forester. Before that, I had a 2004 Forester.

My sister is on her third Forester, my mom on her second Legacy.

They are a dream to drive, reliable in all kinds of conditions. A great car for women because they are so dependable.

Plus, you wouldn't believe the amount of stuff I can get into my Forester. I bought a five piece patio set that was packed (unassembled) in a HUGE box and it fit.

I had always been a Honda girl, (and I still like them), but the first time I test drove a Subaru, I was hooked.
